Can't get in!

My battery has run down after 4 weeks without use and now I can't get into the car!



Can anyone help? It's a 99 Chim...

Hi Nick sorry mate but your going to need a little more mileage on PH before people start giving out sensitive information.

May I humbly suggest that you ring your garage in the morning; they should know a few different ways to gain entry.

Don't take offence crumpy. Your first question was one of my first questions and once all is clear you too, will understand why people are cautious in answering your question.

No no offence taken - it's just sods law that this is the first thing to go wrong! Obviously I'd rather everyone be cautious, I was in two minds when I posted whether anyone would reply but I was getting a bit desperate so thought it was worth a go..

I've had the beast for 18 months now and the first thing I did was invest in the bible (not too mechanically minded!) and thankfully nothing ever went wrong that wasn't covered in there... have called the garage this am though so fingers crossed I don't damage something

I've been away so it's been stuck in the garage - typical eh?

OK - I've had enough of this getting into a Chim business.

With the older ones I am familiar with the secret.

But with a '99 newer facelift Chim someone is gonna have to email me offline as I know my car pretty well and I can't work this out.

This may get censored, but I don't necessarily see why:
You could connect jumper cables to your starter motor - (don't know if you can get to it from under the Chim) and then provide power to the car - enough for you to open it properly!

Obviously there are the "other" ways, which most tiv owners are familiar with. But maybee the jumper cable idea could be passed on without worrying who's being told?

Am on my 2nd TVR now and have absolutely no idea how to get into my car 'in an emergency'?????????

Seems as though it could be a rather handy (albeit sensitive) bit of info........

Before you change the battery do make sure the battery clamps are clean. When I got my Chim over 2 years ago it never 'held a decent charge' for more than a few days. I took the battery clamps off and lightly sanded the inside of the clamps and the posts on the battery. Then I put the clamps back on an made sure they were tight. Ever since I've had no battery problems.

Low voltage, high current (eg 12V) systems are very sensitive to resistance as a small resistance will greatly reduce the amount of current that can flow.

witchcraft!!!!! i dont know that one but i know the other usual way.....i thought there was only one way to get in when the battery is flat and it wasnt at the back....not quite anyway!!!!!

Got some good news and some bad news:

Good news is that I am no longer in the position where I HAVE to sell my Chim

Bad new is that I also wouldn't have a clue how to gain access to my Chim if the battery died on me.!!!

Any chance someone here could enlighten me - off forum obviously....
