Hi all
First post here, been a reader for years!
Car history in the last 10 years from age 17-27:
2011 - Corsa (of course)
2012 - Audi A1
2014 - Audi TT
2016 - BMW 330e
2017 - Jaguar F type
2017 - Audi S3
2018 - Mini JCW
2018 - Porsche Boxster
2018 - Range Rover Sport
2019 - Abarth 595 Competizione
2020 - Mercedes CLA shooting brake
Yes, I get bored easily!
Last month I purchased another F type as they've always been one of my favourite cars!

I do like the wheels - however, going to get them refurbed as the car is getting paint correction and ceramic coated and the wheels have very very minor marks, no kerb damange, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist!
My options are:
- keep the diamond cut finish, but change the inside parts of the alloys to a anthracite instead of the black they currently are as I think diamond cut and black give off a bit of a ripspeed halfords look (personal opinion)
- A gloss or satin black - used to like black alloys, but lately going off them and feel like do end up looking a bit lost!
- A dark anthracite
Any opinions welcomed!

That's not a bad idea actually, I did see some smoked chrome, but have never seen it in person so wasn't sure if it was too shiny!
I refurbed the diamond cut wheels of my old Golf in smoked chrome. In dull light they just look a glossy gunmetal but at night under spotlights or in the sun they really pop. Sadly I can’t find any pictures of themChrisCh86 said:
Wow you've done well for yourself in the last few years! Either that or you spend everything on cars.
What engine is the new F Type?
Looks good as it is TBH
I didn’t mean to come across as that at all, just seen a few post their history so thought I’d join in, no where near as exciting as some! What engine is the new F Type?

The F types the 3.0 V6S which was the same as the previous one.

Seen some photos online, it’s strange, some in smoked chrome look amazing and others not so good. Maybe differs place to place. Certainly does look nice though! I had my BMW 442m refurbished from diamond cut face/ferric grey, to a gunmetal powder coat. I must say that any metallic grey inside of the spokes is good as it reduces the appearance of brake dust, and of course it is course more ‘mature’ and subtle than black.
I would love to be able to change my car that often! I tend to get settled to a car, having chosen it well, and then found they grow on me.

The rim is what they called Shadow Chrome. It actually looks better than the previous diamond cut because there are no machining marks. As has already been mentioned, they should also last much longer too. I would suggest that the anthracite would look better than black for the inserts.
All black would look awful, it hides all of the design of the wheel.
Beautiful car by the way.

Yeah, worried without the diamond cut they wheels may appear small. They're 20" so hopefully not! I would love to be able to change my car that often! I tend to get settled to a car, having chosen it well, and then found they grow on me.
I think I'll keep this as long as possible. Can't decide what's best as it's only on 11k miles so not sure if I should run it for a year and risk not losing loads or just keep it a few years and put miles on - it's used as a daily.

This is where my confusion is though as that looks a complete different shade to the "shadow chrome" I've seen online, they all seem to vary.
Here is an example I found online which appear much darker, maybe lighting etc and depending on the refurbishment place.

Nice car OP.
Don’t go for black wheels; they look cack and have been down to death.
I’d also ditch the diamond cut finish; it’s just not durable.
I’d be tempted by either an anthracite or shadow chrome.

That was my fear, they are a bit over done. Definitely tempted by an anthracite or shadow chrome though!

Looks great, I think if I had a different colour car I'd go for this sort of colour, but worried it'll look to plain against the white and the black pack on the car
Yeah I'd agree with you there, need a bit of a darker hue with white.
But the chrome powder coats are a great solution long term.
I think where wheels are normally diamond cut going to a solid colour (silver, black) can spoil the look of them.
For me it worked as a tougher facsimile to the stock polished and lacquered rims below, that are notorious like diamond cut wheels.
Where they were normally being refurbed in the same colour as the centres it makes a huge difference.
The powder coat is less shiny, or less of a perfect reflection, than polished alloy.
