Aldi Special Buys
Discussion
As Aldi don't have a email address I will moan on here!
They have some really cheap stuff on special these supermarkets, yet getting them is near impossible.
Last year tried buying a garden parasol, got to the store an hour after it opened, the cashier told me they sold out within 15 minutes with people buying multiple amounts. By evening Ebay had many examples on sale at up to twice the price.
Sunday they had a fire pit on offer, got up early and started checking every 30 minutes, but missed the deal they all sold out in between checking the site, once again Ebay has many of these for sale at up to 200% kmore than Aldi sold them for.
Aldi management, surely there should be a limit of how many can be sold in one transaction.

not really Aldis fault, this happens across the board. I've been looking for a graphics card for a year.
When i was skint i used to buy things in demand and flip them, not taking the piss just 2 most, but it is easy money really. Should be a code in place i think though for all retailers.

Lots of you tube videos suggesting to do something like this (flipping). When i was skint i used to buy things in demand and flip them, not taking the piss just 2 most, but it is easy money really. Should be a code in place i think though for all retailers.
Suddenly everyone's an entrepreneur.....
Flipping/ Reselling or whatever else you want to call it is big business now, probably largely due to Youtube and social media telling everyone about it, I have done it myself before it became the trendy thing to do, it's much harder now to be honest as everyone and their mum is trying to do it.
I've never got involved in the Aldi special buys though, I can see it not working overly well as if everyone is buying them and banging them straight on eBay what will happen is all the people doing it will end up pushing the prices down on each other to get the stuff moved on again. Some people will make a decent profit off it but many won't.

I buy quite a lot of Aldi stuff on line and generally get what I want.
Although, about 20 years ago I sotted a really good spec tower computer and my son really wanted it.
Fortunately, I was working in Germany at the time and the Uncle of my Bosses Wife worked at the Aldi Regional Distribution Centre, so he saved me one.

I am surprised a lot more retailers arent putting restrictions on. A lot of known "collectable" items are restricted by the manufacturer for that reason - eg lego very commonly restricts numbers of one item.
Scalping is becoming more common. People need to open their eyes to it more and just not pay the inflated prices then it will die out.
Unfortunately its hard to control. I did laugh my head off when at the start of covid, loads of rip off assholes tried scalping with 10's of thousands of pounds worth of PPE and basically all the websites they could of sold it on banned it for ethical reasons and the morons got stuck with PPE they couldn't sell.
Most scalpers will say they are no different than anywhere else buying goods and selling on at a profit.

So if these items are being flipped, why don’t Aldi increase the sale price? Hardly like Porsche limiting numbers to protect resale values is it.
It feels like the special buys are a way of getting non customers in the store, I’d say it works, whether people return is a different matterShnozz said:

Because a it d draws people into the shop or website, then if there is no stock left chances are they will buy other stuff. Look at the attention this thread has got, it wouldn't have got this is it was always in stock.Spare tyre said:

Fair enough. Although if my first impression of a store was a queue outside and a stampede for the centre isle as the doors open like wild animals, I’m not sure I’d be returning anytime soon. Likewise if I turned up there at a more civilised hour to find none of the supposed offers were actually available due to said earlier stampede.

Fair play - if it works it works. On a personal level it says to me don't bother wasting time as unlikely to get the offer anyway. But understood that I am in the minority. No doubt some seasoned marketeers know exactly what their ploy is and have measured it.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
