Can anyone recommend me something to get my teeth in to? As per another thread, I recently started playing DayZ and loved much of it - what ruined it was the other players hoarding everything, and the glitches. Whenever I came across other players they would simply out-gun me.

Something like DayZ, with the exploration and life skills - but with less/no other player interaction (because I'm a miserable old git). I have an Xbox S.

Thanks!

Have you tried State of Decay 1/2? Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

Dying light is good but it isn't really survival so much as it is a zombie killing jamboree.

If you want things like foraging for supplies (fuel, food ect) base management, people management in third person then state of decay is very fun for that.

If you want to slaughter zombies in first person using ever more ingenious ways like drop kicking them off buildings or slicing them in half with an electric sword then Dying light is the game for you.

If your playing and enjoying dayz have you tried moving to a private pve server, most usually have there discord names on the server names.
Might be an idea to try and join a well run one, a lot of them can have increased loot drops and more zombies.

Or DL2. Because that's imminent. Possibly....

Far Cry series are excellent for wandering about doing your own thing etc. In FC5 you get to kill trump voters biggrin

I know it's a bit different to running about with zombies but if it's available then Subnautica is worth a look.

Not new anymore so might even be cheap or available for free on whatever Gamepass thing if you have it.

It's a really good game, I properly enjoyed it.

Good combination of exploring, a bit of story, building and resources etc.

One I keep meaning to try is The Long Dark. Again a few years old now so probably cheap (or free on gamepass).

You basically assume the role of a plane crash survivor in the frozen wilderness, the aim is simply to survive as long as possible vs the elements, local wildlife, etc.

I'd also recommend Dying Light, although as said above it's much heavier on action (more like Far Cry than DayZ). I avoided it first time around because I hated Dead Island but the trailer for DL2 just came out and I thought I would give it a go. It's on sale everywhere at the moment (I got it on steam for £8.49) and it's actually really good.

For something survival that isn't just the same old formula, try Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero.
