Experiences of tattoo removal

Tumbleweed in the health forum so thought i'd try my luck in here - I know there are threads about tattoo removal already, but they're quite old now and I wanted to ask if anybody had real recent experience of having a tattoo laser removed and the results that they achieved. It's difficult to fully trust the stuff I see from a Google Search as so much of it is used as marketing for tattoo removal companies and it would be exceptionally easy to photoshop good results (cynical I know).
I'm keen to have my two terrible tattoos removed but i'm less keen if i'm just going to end up with two really faded rubbish tattoos... I realise it takes a long time and many sessions with long breaks in between, that I don't have a problem with, as long as they're actually gone in the end.
Both of mine are entirely black ink and approximately 20 years old, the larger of the two is maybe 10cm x 7cm and the other 7cm x 7cm.
So has anybody had a tattoo removed and if so did it actually completely get rid of it in the end?

Not myself but my sister has recently concluded her removal treatment course.
She had the proverbial slag-tag and a couple of other smaller (10cm square roughly) tattoos removed - its taken probably 2-3yrs of treatment sessions but has been very successful.

I'll DIY a lot of things, but might have to leave this to the pros... Had 2 sessions on one of mine - first was from a local tattoo shop who also offer lasering.
Was a small machine, lots of noise, no pain and no real results.
Travelled to Bolton for my last session after a recommendation, very uncomfortable at the time but already seeing results.
After each session it takes a good few weeks to see any changes.
Im going to need another few sessions to get it faded enough for a coverup.
