Good cars, should be reliable, all depends on condition and servicing though.

Buy on condition & make sure the gearbox has been serviced as per schedule.

I drove a 2012 Skoda vRS (170) diesel with the 6-speed wet clutches DSG from 9k miles to 78k miles over 7 years. Gearbox oil & filter changed at 40k. No problems with car or the DSG, except 2 replacement rear wiper motors under warranty (known problem).
Liked the gearbox & now have a 2018 Leon FR 1.4TSi (150) with the 7-speed dry clutches DSG.

I’ve got a 2014 Golf TDI with the DSG. It’s been faultless in the two and a bit years I’ve had it. 150BHP which is fine. A little boring to drive but comfy, nice place to be (few extras) and cheap to run.

As someone who is today, replacing the mechatronic unit on a 2010 Passat with the same-ish engine, it would be hard to recommend one.

Advantages - Lovely to sit in.
Disadvantages. Poorly engineered bits of absolute rubbish in everything oily or electrical.

But maybe that's just me.

The A6 I serviced this morning was only over fussy and complex, so that's probably a highlight from the range.
