Heated mirror control

Having had to refit the glass to my n/s wing mirror I noticed that its heated - now I have seen this mentioned before but as I couldnt find a switch to turn them on I assumed it was one of those items that hadnt made it onto my car . But now I know I have them how do I switch them on ? I have tried a few things and find that pressing the little mirror adjust joystick in produces a relay click from somewhere so Im guessing this is how its done - does this sound right ?. Anyone know how long they stay on for ?

Presumably only while the ignition is on? I would have thought they would be on a timer just to demist them for a few minutes.

There is a timer relay under the dash that controls the heated mirrors. Works something loik: on when you get in for 5mins or so - will go off if a door is opened.

I guess I will have to wait for winter to roll around to see if they work ;-)
