Anyone who has a Getrag (996) transaxle:
Can you please let me know approx. how far back the input for the gearshift (linkage or cable) is? e.g. It's not as far to the rear of the car as the G50's input, right?
Is it even behind the axle-shafts though?
Even better if you can tell me how many inches back it is, from where the bellhousing meets the engine-adapter plate...
Thanks.

Are you building?
If so then the build manual CD has a few pictures of the shift cables and bracketry.Steve
A belated thanks to both of you. I should be ordering soon (I don't have the build manual yet). The transaxle is the last thing I wanted to plan before ordering...
Might get a used Getrag for now (because some are as cheap as used G50's -- at least here in The States), then when Porsche's next PDK is available, I can decide on that vs. a Holinger/MegaLine upgrade to the Getrag -- LeMans or F1 styles of shifting; quick-shifts and left-foot braking; lots of 'fun' wiring it too ;-) but MegaLine says it shouldn't be bad given that I'm an engineer, even with the Porsche/Chevy combo -- or I'm considering the Ferrari F430's transaxle with the F1 option (modify axle-shafts, etc.; but semi-automatic/paddle-shifting only, because I wouldn't be arsed to program the Ferrari for it's fully-automatic gearshift mode ;-) ), or a few leads for similar transaxles which I'm still pursuing. I'm more certain about it needing to be an LS7 (with blower & lowered-CR, all else fairly stock) with approx. 750 net-HP, dyno-tuned. Adding 50% HP -- or in this case, 50% over the LS7's 500HP is 750 HP -- is usually good for a barely-streetable turbo'ed car. But with a kerb-weight of about 2/3'rds the Corvette's (even after the Ultima is weighted-down by an FIA-rollcage, fire-system, etc., with light weight also being its obvious advantage over major-automakers' modern cars) and no PS pump, etc., I'm hoping to get good enough mileage that it can beat the Vette's EPA mileage and be driven a few times per week, not just to/from the track or 'special' events like car-club cruises.); on weekends, if I get the guts to use racing-octane with even more boost, that's probably going to be even more than 750 HP. ;-) Of course, my options with straight-cut gears (e.g. Holinger/MegaLine) would be annoying on the street...but kinda cool to pull up next to [name any sports-car here], downshifting to first with the loud gear-whine, to intimidate them (not to mention that the Ultima's overall look should do that). ;-) My driving on public roads is more for short trips, so the gear-whine shouldn't be too annoying, but I'm holding out for the PDK because it'll prolly be cheaper and easier to adapt. The PDK may be released as early as January, and I should be ready for the driveline a few months thereafter, so I'm hoping Porsche makes it available as 'parts-only' -- just as no one was sure that Chevy would make the LS7 as a crate-engine till a few months ago. Of course, if anyone is interested after I do it, I'll keep track of costs/time/difficulty.
...This plus the blown LS7 (required by my locality/emissions) should be a scary-cool, new-tech combo to compete even with anyone crazy enough to soup-up their Enzo, RUF Porsche, or Macca F1, unless their mods involve making it into a 1500-lb. tube-framed Enzo ;-) ...but of course, roughly $100k total! Still, not bad for something that beats a Yamaha R1 or most big-block dragracers, then demolishes them even worse around corners!
