Why not? It's better than I am.

I'm looking for a new second hand bike, nothing too expensive, just something to get out and blow away the cobwebs every now and again.
I've come across a 1990 FJ1200 locally at a very reasonable price. I know it's not modern and state of the art, but to be perfectly honest, it's still outstrips my own capabilities. Getting on a bit, big, bulky and likes a drink... doesn't that describe most of us?
I had a brand new FJ1100 in the mid eighties when I was young and probably at the height of my riding peak and the worst thing about the bike back then was the rider, it was far too good for me.
Now,some 35 years later, I'd be kidding myself if I thought I was any better now so why do I need to look for better than another FJ?
As I remember them, they could keep up with any sports bike of their era, were bulletproof, and big, solid, and comfortable enough to rack up hundreds of miles in a day.
This one has 30000 miles on the clock, comes with a full set of hard luggage, and I can have it for just over a grand. Any reason I shouldn't snap his hand off?

At that age and mileage the suspension is going to be a bit tired.
A fork oil change will perk it up and maybe a decent rear shock if you can afford it.
Or alternatively just get out and ride it. If you’re not au fait with the latest bikes and have nothing to judge it again then it’ll be fine.
