Getting cold feet- GR Yaris or alternative options
Discussion
Hi All,
I currently have a GR Yaris on order which I am excited at the prospect of but I am starting to get cold feet with the wait and potential over exposure online. My issue is that I will be using the car as a daily driver for 12-13k pa and will occasionally be looking at putting a small/medium dog and my road bike in it (not at the same time). The more I think about it, the less suitable I think it is for my uses!! I don't want to miss out on what is potentially a very special car, but is some of it just hype?
The Yaris is the top of my budget for an everyday car but I can't help think I would be better served by a nearly new MK8 Fiesta ST/Mx5 and an old estate car for dog & bike duties for less money. I already have a 996 Carrera as my fun/weekend so keeping the Yaris for special occasions isn't really an option.
Sorry for my ramblings but I am trying to convey my flickering thoughts as I wan't to try and experience as many cars as possible, but don't want to miss out on something different like the Gr Yaris.
Any thoughts on what I should do/cars to look at (Civic type R's always catch my eye)?

The “overexposure online” bit I don’t get as you are still waiting for your car which means you ordered after the internet went mad for the Yaris!
But back to the point of a daily driver. Mine is a daily (although it’s traveled far less than planned with lockdowns) I’ve covered 4,000miles in 6 months. It’s cabin is noisy, space is limited in the boot and it kind of just blends in with traffic (to a degree).
Plenty of photos around online with bikes in the back and a few with dogs in the back. The civic is still the most practical of hot hatches and probably better suited to my needs but I just can’t get past the looks.
Servicing is 6,000miles so you would be requiring 2 services a year although relatively cheap compared to other manufacturers servicing.

Thanks, by ‘overexposure online’ I was referring to so many posts about PPF, waiting lists etc that it has lost its specialness...unwanted one from launch but had to leave my company car scheme to work the man maths first. The road noise was noticeable on the test drive but all within my tolerance levels, I think the space is my slight concern and that a Fiesta ST would give me most of the experience for far less money and leave money for an old estate car...
I assume you've seen https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-features/toyot... about the Yaris / Fiesta comparison ?
When would you be expecting your Yaris to come? To me, it's only now that I'm hearing about true enthusiasts like this https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... having had time to get to grips with their Yaris, that it's starting to appeal more rather than less.
However, if what's important to you is having a car that everyone looks at and asks 'is that the new X?' then you've missed the hype train with the Yaris and should cancel and make sure to get to the front of the queue with something else as soon as it's announced (not an FK8, although the next-gen CTR could be a candidate).
Personally a 996 plus a GR Yaris sounds like a great combo, and why not have a daily car that's also great to drive, if that's what you do most miles in? However if you want a slightly bigger, quieter, more practical car then I can see that too. CTR an option, could also consider a quick estate like a 340i Touring to cover all the bases?
Personally keeping up with three cars logistically would feel like a bit much, but each to their own.

I celebrated the announcement of the GR Yaris.
Nowadays all we're hearing about is the next electric, hybrid, DSG this, DCT that, type cars to come out.
Then a manufacturer launches the GR Yaris.
Maunal box
Manual handbrake
3dr bodyshell just for the GR
A real carbon roof
Bespoke 4wd with LSD options
Should be quite exclusive? Have they confirmed build numbers?
All in a brand new car with a 5 year warranty.
I was sold on it.
And after driving one I was sold even more.

If you're going for 2 cars then make one of them exciting like an Elise or VX220 or Caterham. The GR is a second car/track toy.
Its very good at playing that role but for the plans you have for it then I can't see it working tbh
Maybe buy it and enjoy on special occasions but buy an old smoker for daily duties?
For real world, practical performance then there's stuff like the Golf R/GTI etc
