I’ve noticed increasingly in news reports on websites whether it be the BBC or SKY or newspapers or who ever very rarely give the description of the person the police are looking for......for instance the recent stabbing murder of the flower seller guy in London......

They nearly always add they want witnesses camera footage blah blah but no description for people to search for.......is it the Police or the News outlets......

I went through first 3 pages on Google for the attack on the poor guy and nothing........no description, how is this helpful or am I missing something here......

Yes I have my suspicions, but I was wondering if there those more knowledgeable in these matters cops on here or investigators have specific instructions for legal reasons not to.....

Were they? I'm pretty sure it was only once the suspect was in custody?
And yes...the answer to the question is pretty obvious.

I've noticed that some people start threads on PH and I can sort of make out why they are asking a question but they don't really spell it out. Why is that?

If they have pictures they publish them.

If they don’t, we’ll, eye witnesses are notoriously crap. Eyewitness details just can’t be relied on and giving out a description based on them is more likely to cause problems than not.

I’m not sure it is as black and white and you make it out to be.

I think we all agree that it's best that sadly, occasionally, a murder remains unsolved rather than identify the assailant by their skin pigmentation.

I'm sure the victim's family will understand.

Guessing a real reason for not giving out descriptions now is so that the defence can't claim the police influenced the recollections of witnesses.
