Best android phone?
Discussion
I like a fancy new phone every so often. I bought a OnePlus 8 pro last year and it was alright, but still preferred my old Huawei P30 pro. I couldn't quite put my finger on why it didn't seem quite as nice. I use the P30 as my personal phone and the OnePlus for work. Dual sim no good as my work phone also provides a 24/7 wifi hotspot. My P30 though seems to be hanging on for dear life and it's probably about time!
We have a Android app for work so Apple is not an option.
I've not had a Samsung for years and remember being delighted when I had a less hampered version of android after changing.
Work paying for it so budget not a concern. Any Huawei users than have found a replacement brand? Or is Samsung better (they obviously sell in vast numbers)? Any other brands? My wife has my old P20 Pro, Son has a Samsung A-something, daughter a Google Pixel 4a. I don't take pictures really so just need a new gadget! Possibly even just buy another P30 if there's nothing, or wait and see what new phones are due.

I'd be interested about this too - I have a P30 Pro and while I love it, I know I can't have a P40 or P50 realistically. I've plenty of time yet, but I would be intrigued as to what you might get - The Oppo phones look decent, but I've heard they use older, slower processors, but I don't know how true this is...
I've got a Oneplus 6T and absolutely love it. The phone is still flawless after about 3 years. I am tempted by the Oneplus 9 though - although it is entirely unnecessary at the moment.
My partner has a Samsung, it's quite a bit smaller than my Oneplus 6T. I think it may be the S21, but she really likes it.

I have the 6T too, struggling to see a reason to change at the moment as phones seem pretty much the same over the last few years with nothing groundbreaking announced. My partner has a Samsung, it's quite a bit smaller than my Oneplus 6T. I think it may be the S21, but she really likes it.

Yea I know what you mean - I looked briefly at the Oneplus 8 and the reviews said "It's the same as the 7" and when I looked further, not much had changed.I would upgrade in an instant if the phone started to not work, but it is still perfect at the moment.
I don't really have the right words to explain why I didn't like Samsung, just seemed like an extra layer of Samsungness on every element of the operating system. In fact, I probably hadn't realised how bad it was until I changed brand and it was so refreshing.
If Honor were part of Huawei and have been split off, but can have the Google services, I might sit on my hands/money until mid-June to see what the Honor 50 Pro+ looks like.

I'm in a similar position, with a Mate 20 Pro that does everything I need it to still. Absolutely no reason to upgrade beyond wanting something newer, but there I just nothing out there to tempt me.
I was convinced I would buy a Xiaomi M11 Ultra, but that is Vodafone only and quite pricey, so didn't end up with that. Before that I thought the OnePlus 9 Pro would be it, but again it doesn't really don't for me at the moment.
Maybe something better will come out in the autumn...

Yeh they have their own version of most of the stock apps you end up with calendar x 2 etc installed. If Honor were part of Huawei and have been split off, but can have the Google services, I might sit on my hands/money until mid-June to see what the Honor 50 Pro+ looks like.

Me too, I'd be interested in why the OP hasn't got on with the 8, as the 6T still works and is still plenty fast enough for anything I want to do.My partner has a Samsung, it's quite a bit smaller than my Oneplus 6T. I think it may be the S21, but she really likes it.

I use both the 8 pro and P30 pro heavily daily. They both do most usual stuff pretty well. The battery on the 8 seems to have deteriorated recently, but I do use it as a wi-fi hotspot all day.
Perhaps importantly, I play daft games in the evenings to help switch off - these I play on the P30 pro (having tried both of course). Also it's my go-to for browsing. It just feels like a high-end phone (or did a while back!) and the OnePlus not so much.
I bought a Oneplus 8 Pro on the recommendation of this forum a year ago and its brilliant
Form factor good despite being bigger than anything Id had before, camera is superb and processor speed excellent
I genuinely love it and as an Android fanboy it feels a much better device than the many Samsungs Id had before
Give it a go, what have you got to lose?
Oh, hang on...........................
A left-field choice is Sony.
I went from a Galaxy Note 10+ to an Xperia 1ii back in February.
The Note was excellent, but just a fraction too big for comfort.
The Sony has a 21:9 aspect ratio, so it's taller and thinner, making it easier to manage one-handed. The 4K screen is just lovely. It has wireless charging (a must for me) and a proper headphone jack, as well as an SD card slot and front-facing stereo speakers.
Cameras are decent, plus it has "pro" apps which give you the same photo and video software as Alpha mirrorless cameras.
The Android version is v close to stock, with little bloat.
Xperia 1 mark iii will be on sale soon, with a brighter screen and high refresh rate. I doubt that's enough to change from the mark ii. Probably.
Bought mine 2nd hand for less than 50% of new price and got a decent trade-in on the Note.
I admit to being a bit of a Sony fanboy, but I am really very impressed with it.
