What's this church?

Does anyone recognise this church with a hill next to it? Or this hill with a church next to it?

Likely southern England, possibly between London and Southampton; or it may have been taken on holiday somewhere entirely different.

The grey egg people will have long gone by now.

Everywhere is between London and Southampton if you try hard enough.

Fairly close to where I live now, very close to where I grew up, and most certainly worth a visit. Americans cross the atlantic to visit the Tor. I have walked up there countless times and the views across the Somerset levels are wonderful.

A good tip is to take the northern route to the top, and then descend my the southern route. No point in doing the same walk twice. They start and finish within a few hundred yards of each other.

Whilst you're there, visit Glastonbury, just a short walk from The Tor and a proper Bohemian town full of people who'll heal you with crystals or tell your fortune, and many who enjoy a bit of herbal.

The Riflemans Arms is a great pub, just opposite the Tor. You will find all sorts of characters in there, many of whom will be very friendly in a Magical Mystery Tour kind of way. I was there just three weeks ago and had a great afternoon, outside but undercover in the pissing rain.

The abbey is worth a visit but it costs money you could spend on beer, there are a couple of good chippys (Knights? God it'sbeen a while), a decent curry house (if memory serves) and other pubs on the high street.

If you go to the Tor on the summer solstice you will find many, many people there. Like Woodstock but without the bands. Some won't have left from the previous solstice.

Glastonbury is still a magical place, slightly tinged with a hint of commercialism but in many ways 'old school hippy'.

I was going to nominate St Catherine's Chapel in Abbotsbury, but the window arrangement is clearly correct for Glastonbury, so I stand corrected before I even posted.

To be fair, almost anyone who lives in the South West, and countless others besides, would recognise Glastonbury Tor in an instant.

I live in Scotland. Never been to glastonbury. Only ever seen it in pics. Still knew what it was though. Must have been on tv at some point.

It is a church - the church of St Michael. Only the tower remains as the nave was destroyed (along with Glastonbury Abbey) during the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1500’s.
