Is it possible to get annual insurance to cover goods (wall art) I send via a courier, rather than having to insure each consignment individually? Retail value would be up to £150ish.

If that is feasible would it then be possible to get insurance for guitars sent to me by a customer via a courier for repair and return? Value up to £1,000.

We use this company marshcommercial.co.uk but the actual insurer is Aviva.

We insure goods up to £5000 throughout the UK and Europe with standard couriers, excess of £100 and we pay about £350 per year.

I have had to claim twice in the last 12 months for a total of about £2500 and Aviva paid out within days for the full amount. I think they normally deal with higher profile claims so anything under £3000 is processed within 24-48 hours as its a tiny claim for them.

Highly recommended though and you could probably lower the excess.

Thanks for that info

I tried their web form yesterday, no response

Tried their Milton Keynes office, closed due to Covid, please email, followed by an email address

So I emailed, had an email straight back saying I didn't have permission to email two named individuals

Tried their complaints department, the only phone number on their website.

Phone went unanswered for 3 minutes.

Crap service, normally we do it via email and they are efficient.

Can't your courier provide you with cover built in to your rates?

At £150 an item I'd self insure.

Turns out that Allianz (through Marsh Commercial) won't insure goods on third party couriers.

I'll keep looking, insuring individual consignments would be uneconomic, and the courier firms I've tried so far won't consider me for an account (not enough parcels).

This search turns up lots of options.

https://www.google.com/search?q=%22goods+in+transi...

For instance https://www.sjlins.co.uk/goods-in-transit-insuranc....

Is this simply a problem of scale, that those policies are too big (read expensive) for your needs?

For your wall art, it's £150 an item.

Do you have that many that are damaged/lost to warrant insurance? If so, I would look at a better carrier, rather than insurance.

If you must insure, try AIG.

When I was selling things, UPS booked via Interparcel wanted 2% an item for insurance and they managed to lose or damage 0.1% of them. It's worthwhile making sure that your packaging is fit for purpose.
