Yes it seems immacualte but isn't the pricing of these starting to get a bit silly now? Also, I can't imagine a car of this kind ever being fitted with an auto box back in that era. I'm prepared to be corrected on that with someone's superior knowledge though

There’s me thinking £120 was a fair price for a forty five year old Dagenham dustbin

Then I put my glasses on

People often pay stupid money for cars which are very ordinary and sometimes plain crap to drive. I can't fathom the £80K recently paid for a BMW M3 CSL or the £50K for an Escort Cos. But like the saying shows, anything is worth whatever someone will pay.
When i see stupidly priced old sports cars or hot hatches i just think what a 3 year old car can do for us now, like an A45 AMG for example. Put that against say a Sierra Cosworth, just over 200 bhp and crap brakes/interior/lights/suspension, etc., plays almost 400 bhp and fantastic running gear and cockpit.
My father has given me his old Lancia Delta Integrale and having driven it a few times it is getting sold fairly soon once a few gremlins have been sorted (electrics). Not even looked at values yet but i assume they will be silly. 1993 with factory fitted Recaros.

I didn't notice that in the pics. The initial description has it as an automatic though, hence why I said that. Fully corrected, thanks

Nobody with a disposable income has ever gotten all misty eyed and nostalgic over an A45 AMG...

Well just over 45 years a Ferrari 250 GTO was just a high school project car they ditched for $6000.....and the guy who bought that couldn’t shift it for years
Now what are they worth?

It's a Facebook 'thing' - all cars default to automatics (unless the seller changes it), and mileage is usually in KM.

You sir, have no soul.

Not even a competition in my view and couldn't care less which is faster or more capable. Its about how it makes you feel.

That's the problem!

I sold my 1978 MK2 Escort RS2000 in 1984 for about £2,500 so I could buy a 1982 Capri 2.8 Injection.

Both were great cars back in the day but would feel pretty hopeless now, and I'd never buy one now at the prices they seem to fetch these days.

Nostalgia is great, but sometimes the past is best left in the past!

Yeah, but people aren't buying these old cars because they're faster, or drive better, or whatever versus newer cars. They're buying them either because of a nostalgic interest in old things or as a speculative investment to sell on and make money with in the future. I'm pretty confident someone with 120k to spend on an ancient Ford Escort will have more than enough money to drive a A45 AMG, or whatever, on an everyday basis. They're buying the Escort as something to have fun with, play with, use on special occasions. Or to put in storage to sell for even more in 10 or 20 years' time.

Someone asking £120k should have the common decency to spell "brakes" correctly....

The BDA engined cars really are sought after by the Ford boys and although it might not make asking price I don't doubt someone will pay top dollar for this. It is part of the RS rallying heritage just like the cosworth sierra/escorts and therefore attracts the scene tax as for many it's their ultimate heritage car.

A car that is “ truly rare and unique” - oh dear not a good start.

With a history like that it should look like a battle-scarred warrior rather than a concours queen. What are those Minilitish wheels - don’t look too much like an AVO fitment to me ?

RS1800, only 108 made. Comes with a Cosworth BDA engine, worth every penny.

If you’d told me when I was a kid in 1970s Birmingham, “Young man, one day this Ford Escort RS will be worth twice as much as that Ferrari 308 Dino” I’d have said: “Mister, you didn’t know much about cars, do you?”.

Needs the RS1800 decals - looks naked without them.
