Recommended solicitor required to help return a motorcycle

My motorcycle has been sold without my permission by a former partner. This make the case a civil matter not a criminal one. According to the police, when I tried to report it as stolen. I am looking for a recommendation of a solicitor who handles such cases...

What do you want out of this? I think the chances of getting the bike back are slim unless you can buy it back. One course would be to take the responsible person to small claims court yourself and seek back the value of the bike or what they got for it, whichever is the greater.

Solicitors charge £250-300/hour so consider that their involvement could cost thousands. A call to the Citizens Advice Bureau might be a better first call for free advice first.

What do you mean by former partner?

Have you just split up and they are refusing to return it?

Or have they literally stolen it.

I’d like to think that the past status of the thief shouldn’t matter but it’s easier for the police to fob you off with‘civil matter’

It looks like Bruce and his partner split up, Bruce left home and, whilst he was living elsewhere, his partner sold his Motorbike.

I'm not sure how it's any different to theft tbh.

Thanks for your input. It didn’t take me 6 years to reply. Lol. After speaking at length to a legal motor industry law firm, I don’t have much of a case unless I can find the new keeper. At this moment in time the police are treating it as a civil case. But having done an HPI check some interesting information as arose that could change that. I will have a conversation with the police with this new info and see what traction I can get....
