Mrs D has had a new soft top fitted to her car.

We've got the opportunity to keep it looking its best from day one. The material is twill weave, and it's a dark blue colour if that makes any difference.

Does anyone have recommendations for protectorants, cleaners and conditioners? On previous cars we've used the two-step kit (possibly Meguiars, possibly Turtle Wax) that can be bought at Halfords but surely there's something better now?

Thanks in advance.

If it is new you only need the protection element.

Gtechniq I1 smart fabric is excellent - make sure the hood is completely bone dry and decant the product into an old jug or similar and apply liberally with a paint brush.

Dependent on car / size of roof, a litre should be enough.

Cheers,

Chris

I’ve always used Fabsil Gold on my Porsche hoods. I brush it on, going one way with the first coat and then across the direction of the first coat with the second. It’s fantastic stuff and protects the top for a year or two if parked outside and longer if garaged.

Thanks, I've looked it up and seen some very impressive (non-sponsored) videos so I've ordered a litre. Will follow your advice about using a paint brush as apparently it's a bugger to get off paint and glass once it's dry.

A paint brush is definitely the way to go. You can ensure even coverage and it’s far less messy.
