Anyone playing? I'm tempted as there is a 40% discount available at the moment but would happily invest if anyone fancied playing too? I'm not sure how we team up etc or have a PH based team but it looks great.
No saves, no checkpoints, if you die, you die and you start again. There are already many, many factions that are acting as massive cartels.
I've not played online in ages and talking to complete strangers on the internet (apart from you lot) is a foreign thing for me.
I have time, I have Bluetooth earphones will travel etc.

90% of the time I just die of starvation by the coast...which is really boring.
How on earth can you die of starvation when there is fruit at the bases of most suburban trees, chickens wandering around to kill, the bones of which you can craft into fishing hooks to then catch fish with?If anything’s going to kill you in DayZ it will be other players, wolves or bears.

During the early access days each update would fluctuate between feast and famine. Sometimes you'd literally be tripping over weapons, ammo and food on the beach, then the next roll out you could walk halfway across the map and only find a motorcycle helmet, apple and pitchfork

Girlfriend and I play it every so often for a 'life' or two.
It's shockingly bad interface wise, but really is very enjoyable in terms of pure survival and difficulty / tension.
I'd be happy to attempt to show you the ropes, meeting up in the game is a serious effort, especially when new, but we can give it a go, or even can do the very useful share play where I can watch your screen and try to guide you along a bit if you'd like
If you can play with a friend it makes the long drawn out misery much more enjoyable, there's no instructions or anything so it is a STEEP learning curve to survive...

Thanks man but I can already hear the sound that controllers make when launched at the telly!
Yeah I can understand that. The first week or so of trying to play it, purely just trying to meet up with a friend was basically:
Freezing, thirsty and starving most of the time, sneaking around in the pitch black trying to avoid zombies.
No idea how to consume this chicken I've just killed.
No idea how to make a fire.
Constantly getting 'ill' which was then a guaranteed death sentence as no idea how to get better.
Only ever finding ammo or magazines or accessories for guns you don't have.
Oh s
t that was a gunshot in the distance. Run away. How is this orchard completely devoid of fruit?
Constantly cursing the atrocious user interface.

Although you forgot to mention the terror felt the first time you hear wolves.

One of the gf and I's games was going well, pretty well kitted up, moving cautiously around the map generally exploring, I had a couple of rounds in a shotgun and she had a pistol with a full magazine...
Needless to say, somehow 3 or 4 of the b
ds managed to take us completely by surprise, and with no ammo left after the frantic panic firing we finally managed to axe the last one to death with enough blood left to have time to bandage wounds before I blacked out
It's nice how all of a sudden the environment can just throw you in to life threatening peril, I think despite the learning curve, it's a very well balanced game.

I’ve got my own (Xbox) DayZ server that is geared towards being an extreme PvE server.Darkness turned right up, food, ammo & guns turned down, bears and wolves maxed out, zombies turned up.
To say it’s challenging to complete a lap of the map would be an understatement ! Trying to fend off a pack of wolves, in the dark, whilst out in the open with a single shot break-action rifle and a dozen rounds of 7.62x39 isn’t a fun experience.
