How would I do this on my home pc if I don't have the install disc. I bought a Dell pc a few years ago and xp came pre-installed, without the discs.

My pc is working fine, but I want to prepare for the worst.

You should have got a Dell recovery CD with it. That will install XP etc and restore the machine to exactly how it was at the time you bought it.

Good Luck with Dell's world renowned (lack of) customer service -

my Dell came with no discs & I am still having hell's delight in getting a recovery disc.

They say I should have noticed at the time of delivery - there was no packing list either

Disk pack costs an extra £7 iirc.
