Fantastic memorial at Ver-sur-Mer opened today, on the 77th anniversary of D Day.

Amazing things done by those people and a fantastic memorial to those that died.

Looking forward to visiting it when we can.

I may be setting myself up on how ignorant I am on this but I hadn't realised it was today until the extended coverage this morning.

It does seem to have slipped by a bit under the radar I think in terms of media coverage.

I agree, I was expecting a live program on BBC 1 or 2 this morning covering the opening ceremony in Ver-sur-Mer. Together with the main British ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum. Of course COVID restrictions affected everything, but all we got was a number of good reports on the BBC news channel.

Yes it’s a fantastic place well worth a visit. It will definitely be on my travel list next year.

I have to say though, why has it taken 77 years to be completed? The American memorial at Omaha was opened in 1956.

I was watching it live on bbc (I think) it was pretty poignant.

There seemed to be some frustration at delays, I got the impression that work was supposed to start years ago but there had been lots of ‘issues’

It looks beautiful on the telly, i can imagine that in person that it will be particularly moving.

Yes it’s taken a long time but the architects hit the mark.
