Personal Plate - confusion when buying a used car!
Discussion
Hi
I would be grateful for some assistance.
I have a personal plate, and will be selling to WBAC as soon as I have dealt with the plate. I have agreed a deal on a replacement car (private), which also has a private plate.
What would be the best way of doing this? The owner is happy if I want to (or can) swap the plate to my new car when he takes his off. Could this be risky, or even possible? Alternatively I guess I need to place on retention - any idea how long this takes - I will need the V5 to sell?
Is it £80 to place on retention, then another £80 to place on new car when I have it?
Many thanks!

Just the single £80 to put the plate on retention. There is no fee to transfer it to a vehicle from a retention certificate.
The last three V5Cs we've received (one to take the plate off the wife’s Yeti, one for buying the replacement car, one for putting the plate on the new car) all took around 4-5 working days (incl Saturdays) to arrive.

I’ve been told by the dealer who I’m buying my new car off that they can’t put my plate on it as there is a post code clash, basically the DVLA have missed my post code off the retention certificate so it’s throwing up an error on the system.
Can I get through to them to try and sort it? Can I f

The DVLA have told me the code on the email is only valid for 72 hours so because I did the change on Friday this expired on Monday. The dealer tried to transfer the plate on Tuesday. They say I need to wait for the paper cert to come through the post, up to 10 days.
In other news, the V5 came today so new car pick up is on for the weekend! Happy days!
