I currently have a focus ST which is being handed back in the next couple of months (halfway through a PCP deal) and need something a lot bigger. I’ve got three kids (10,6 and 8 months) and only something with three proper seats in the back will suffice. I like the idea of an S-Max with the added extra of the third row of seats should we ever need them. The spanner in the works is the missus going back to work in a few months and us needing a second car to get to the station and back.

I’d love an ST-line but with around 18k to play with, this wouldn’t leave me much change to get a second car. I’ve been toying with going for a titanium sport with enough left over to stretch to an ecoboost fiesta (2012-14). Am I overlooking anything and do you think I’ll be able to make the budget stretch? The second car would be doing a daily round trip of around 5 miles with the occasional gym/shopping trip thrown in. The S-Max would be doing around 10-12k a year, regular trips to pick my boys up who live around 70 miles away.
Thanks in advance!

For the second car I'd recommend one of these as they're good value at the moment as well as being well spec'd & a decent amount of grunt & you'll get a good one for between 4-5.5k

Leaving you with a healthy budget for the S Max.

Also look at the Galaxy in Titanium X 180 spec, you'll get a newer highly spec'd one for the same money as the older S Max.

As I said the Galaxy's are great value & you'll get a CAZ/ULEZ compliant one too.
