up until today, my MAC Pro 2013 has been happily displaying on both my dell 27" 5K monitors

One of them has finally given up after 6 years of great service - its been a bit tempramental over the last few months, but today I cannot bring it back to life :-(

So - time to treat myself - I love using two monitors and appreciate that things have moved on - there seem to be a few ultra wide 5K's around now

The 2 DELLS I have currently, have glass screens and pin sharp display - they are beautiful - pretty gutted that one of them is dead

Which would you recommend please and why

The objective is to have multiple windows open all at the same time - as I have to use several different programs all at the same time

MAINLY STATIC GRAPHIC DESIGN - so must be easy on the eyes too

Apart from a silly priced Apple monitor £ no object - quality is the first consideration

Watching with interest as I’ve been struggling to find a great monitor too. The great thing about Apple displays in general is that you can see the pixels and they have a glossy (glass like) finish.

From what I can tell, you can see the pixels on most Dell displays are they have a plasticky finish.

hang on.

An ultrawide 5K monitor (5120x1440) will be nowhere as nice as 2x 27" 5K (5120x2880) Monitors. The Pixels per inch density is much higher with the two monitors, and thus is much much crisper and nicer to use.

I have the Samsung odyssey g9 ultrawide and its nice, but every day I wish I could have the crispness of my Apple Ultrawide 5K.

Trade offs, the glossy finish looks lovely for photos etc, but the matte finish is far better if you're in a bright environment as it's so much less prone to reflections. Horses for courses.

Presume the monitor is the UP2715K? They got very good reviews when they launched I recall.

If the other one is still good, how about replacing the dead one?

There's one on eBay with starting bid of £200 and just under a couple of days left https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234042410120?hash=item3...

I guess for colour accuracy you want an ips panel, rather than a va panel.

I have one of these: https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/dell-ultrasharp-38...

The extra vertical resolution of the 3800 x 1600 panel is nice. A 55" curved 4K would be a step up as you can shove smaller and less used windows up the top, so you can still glance at them rather than turn your head like you would with one of those ultra-ultra-wides.

If what you really like is the sharpness/pixel density then be careful as there are very few panels that can match the pixel density of your currrent 27" 5180x2880 screen. A 4k 40" screen could be as little as half the pixel density.
