Spent over an hour this afternoon on the Gigaclear support line trying to connect the new Linksys router to the old Genexis one. They gave up in the end and passed it over to "technical" to do more extensive line/system checks to find why it won't connect.
The old Genexis was OK but gave poor coverage in the bungalow so a special offer for the newer Linksys and a faster connection seemed like a good idea .....at the time !
So it's back to the old but it works and we wait to see what Gigaclear can do. Has to be Gigaclear as they are the only fibre option in rural NE Northants.
I do so love technology (expletive of choice).
Cheers
Brian.

Brian I have Gigaclear and the older Genexis router. I use a Unifi setup (overkill) with it, but you can use another wireless system with the Genexis one. I wouldn’t be sure about the Linksys Velop system, but there are other ‘mesh’ systems that can be used with the default router. I’ve had the wireless off since we got Gigaclear in 2018.

The service is excellent though. Gigabit internet is still special now. smile

Thanks for that Jake, if it won't work at the next attempt then alternatives will be considered.
Cheers
Brian.

I've come across these Genexis units as B4RN use them in the North West of England. They are a combined ONT/Router/WiFi AP and in my experience they are OK at the ONT and Router piece but the WiFi out of them is poor, both in terms of coverage and speed.

You've bought another router which is not what you need - connecting two routers together is unnecessary and you need to understand what you're doing to make it work. You'll more than likely end up with double-NAT too, which is best avoided.

Your best course of action is to buy one or more wireless access points, then turn off the WiFi on the Genexis. I recommended the Aruba InstantOn AP22 which support meshing - although I'd always recommend cabling back to the router if you can. Note the power supplies are sold separately which you'll need if you don't have a PoE switch.

Hi and thanks for this information.
I am pleased to say that I did not have to buy the Linksys as it was supplied FOC as part of the upgrade.
I did ask Gigaclear why we could not dispense with the Genexis box and use just the Linksys and they told me that the Genexis box did two things .....
A. it took the signal from the fibre optic cable and converted it to wifi
B. it then transmitted this wifi signal.
The Linksys only transmitted and that was why we had to keep the Genexis and Gigaclear "Bridge" the two.

A new Linksys arrives tomorrow and we try again.
Cheers
Brian.
