Home office, looking for something special
Discussion
Driving needs have decreased significantly, with one 50 mile trip every weekend and 3-4 longer holiday drives per year, in total maybe 7000 miles/year .
I am looking for something that will comfortably carry a family with 2 children, reasonably practical, that feels special. Comfortable ride and refinement is a must, would not mind if it could somehow also be good in the twisties.
The budget can be elastic up to about 35 tsd.
Some of the cars I like (mixed bag, I know) :
w222 S-Class,
the previous gen Maseratti Quatroporte,
F11 5er,
Audi C7 S6/ RS6,
Porsche Macan
The big Range
Merc GLS (previous gen)
Looking for some inputs. Thanks!

Out of that lot, having driven none of them, would probably say the Macan.
S6 would appeal and I had an S4 that I really liked although it did feel a bit lifeless steering-wise hence my suggestion for the Macan as I suspect Porsche will have ensured there is good steering feel.
I drove a Macan Turbo (old shape) last year and while it felt very capable of huge speed and was okay in terms of load and rear seat space, an S6 or S4 it was not. Steering was uninvolving and even big speeds were undramatic. Disappointing really. Something in the Macan still sort of makes me want one, but I wouldn’t be expecting much of a headrush from driving one.S6 would appeal and I had an S4 that I really liked although it did feel a bit lifeless steering-wise hence my suggestion for the Macan as I suspect Porsche will have ensured there is good steering feel.
The Quatroporte GTS is a fine option.
Never really considered the XJR as the x351 does not really o it for me design wise and the x350 is getting a bit old now.
The w222 S-Klasse is a fine looking machine, just not sure if it can also be a bit of fun. Maybe the AMG version.
Any other ideas?

I recently faced a similar predicament, although my needs also dictated space that was large and safe enough for our German Shepherd.
The conclusion was an Audi S6 Avant. 66 reg. 4.0 V8 twin turbo with 42k, a suitably high spec, fab service history and a very picky previous owner.
It ticks all the boxes and I love it! Genuinely didn't fancy the 'in yer face' stance of the RS6 and I much prefer the relatively discrete (and rarer) choice of the S6.

If you want something that'll feel special at low speed as well as when you're pressing on, then it's hard to look at the 4.7 Quatroporte.
