2013 116i N13 limp mode
Discussion
Hi, my brother in law’s 60k mile 116i has been regularly giving a drivetrain error and going into limp mode. Turning off and on again clears this for a day or two before it happens again.
I’ve pulled the codes and we get:
135704
120408
130308
Googling doesn’t really give me anything definitive, suggests it could be a timing chain problem, sensor issue or vanos solenoids amongst others.
Anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance!

60,000 miles is about right for timing chain problems. The 116i has the delightful* Prince engine as fitted to R56 Minis and various Peugeot Citroen cars.
Not a horrendous job, a day's work and about £800 all in.
Yes, that’s what concerns me. He avoided a diesel due to the N47 timing chain issues and seems he may well be out of the frying pan into the fire. He’s only had it 6 weeks and the dealer he bought it from has agreed to take a look at it and give him a courtesy car for a week. I notice one error relates to the exhaust vanos solenoid which I understand can stick so I’m going to take a quick look at that. Not a horrendous job, a day's work and about £800 all in.
