Recommend me a 4K monitor
Discussion
I'm looking for a 4K monitor and despite spending a couple of hours searching and reading reviews I just can make my mind up, so I'm looking for some random strangers on the internet to do that for me.
I need to be able to switch between an I9 laptop which has a 4K display (but I need a bigger screen size) and a reasonably powerful desktop PC with a GeForce 970 GTX graphics card. I would like something where switching between inputs is easy and fast.
I'm sitting about 70cm from the screen and would like something between 27" and 32".
The use will be pretty much an even mix of work, general internet browsing and games. Games are things like Far Cry (eagerly awaiting the release of 6), Civ 6 and World of Tanks.
At the moment I can't figure out if it's worth the extra money to pay £700 for a 32" Philips that's the T3 recommended monitor, or pay £250 for a 28" Samsung

What the chap above me said.
I’ve been gaming on a 4K screen for the past few years and went from a 2080Ti to a 3090FE as the older card could no longer cut it at that resolution for gaming without turning down lots of settings.
However, the 3090FE currently serves me well on a LG C9 OLED with GSync.
The downside being they are amazingly overpriced at present unless you manage to get a FE model through Nvidia’s UK seller, Scan.
The 43” CX OLED is a cracking screen but that and a 3090FE would set you back a small fortune right now.

4k on a 970 will be like a slide-show unless you turn every graphic option off.
I wouldn't game on a 4k with that set up if I were you.
You really need 2070 as a min and even then you're end of life for current 4k games with the polish turned on.
Thanks for that - I have had the card for a fair few years so I'm not surprised.I wouldn't game on a 4k with that set up if I were you.

I'll still go ahead with the monitor - I need it for work, and that's all on the laptop. I'll upgrade the graphics card when prices / availability are a bit more reasonable - which I suspect will be a while. In the meantime I'll just configure the PC output to be HD and let the monitor upscale.
I have a 980ti driving a pair of Dell P2715Q - each 4KUHD. Absolutely fine for normal Windows stuff and 3D CAD at full resolution. Most games I run at 1440p with the graphics settings typically on high to get 60 frames per second. Some are fine at full resolution, some need to drop further (or drop quality further).
If you're only having a single screen then bigger is probably worth it. Two 27s takes up a lot of space.
Or consider an ultrawide - not a bad compromise.
