Advertising used car not available for 3 months

I have been in the market for a Golf R for a few weeks and one popped up yesterday on the main dealer website in the spec I want and for a good price so I reserved it.

I then got an e mail (after hours) saying it is a part exchange against a new car arriving in September and would I be in a position to wait until then.

WTF? Is this the new norm? I know the market is a little hot right now but advertising a used car that is not even available for another 3 months takes the biscuit!

Anyone else ever had this happen?

That is taking the piss. Anything could happen to that car in the next three months. It could be crashed, stolen, have an additional 5000 miles put on it. Tell them to jog on and keep looking.

Maybe if it was something super rare and a good price etc I’d be tempted to wait but there’s plenty of golf r’s out there ! I’d look for another

So they are advertising a car they don't even own and presumably then current owner is still driving it about?

That would put me right off.

The Golf R seems to hold value well, looking at £20k for something with 40-50k miles on it in decent condition.

There's a lot of this mentality going on today.

I was browsing s/h french doors on ebay (for a shed), several of them for auctions ending promptly were for something "that would be removed and could be collected in 2 or 3 weeks."
