Crocodile Sisters
Discussion
Is this story I'm seeing on most news outlets irking you as much as it is me?
Two middle class sisters go to Mexico in a pandemic (Mexico travel advice is All but essential travel) and do something as stupid as diving where crocodiles are.
Parents then do a go fund me for funding to pay for treatment and flights to go out there.
Yes, tragic situation, No not worth being on my news every five minutes.

The covid issue is pretty irrelevant here IMO - people have free will, they are young and less likely to have long term implications of any covid related infection. Not everyone desires to live by excessively cautious draconian measures. Two middle class sisters go to Mexico in a pandemic (Mexico travel advice is All but essential travel) and do something as stupid as diving where crocodiles are.

Them being put in a situation by a 'guide' who didn't know the risks, somewhat newsworthy. Punching a croc to save her sister - id say thats very newsworthy, especially for the red-tops. Plus there is nothing wrong with this Go Fund Me, its certainly more viable that most others out there over the past 18-24mths.

The rules and guidance are meant to be obeyed by all. Being young and stupid is not a reasonable excuse to ignore them.CharlieCrocodile said:
What about the rights of the Crocodile? Punched for no reason by a white person whilst going about it's daily every day life. Crocodile Lives Matter.
Exactly. A few less white people on the planet is probably no real loss in the big scheme of things. hurting rare animals is not right. I'm one of those that when a tiger/lion/elephant etc goes on the rampage after escaping from a zoo, I'm on the animals side not the humans.

The news says they were doing voluntary work in Mexico, so not a normal holiday. Are you against voluntary work?
Stupid to dive where crocodiles are? Maybe, if they were aware of the crocodiles. Perhaps they weren’t. American crocodiles rarely attack humans anyway. I have swum where crocodiles are, am I stupid too? You have probably swum where sharks are, what does that make you?
Why does the go fund me plan to finance the parents’ trip and daughter’s treatment annoy you? What has it got to do with you?

Are you suggesting that because their travel may not have been essential, it made it more likely to be attacked by a crocodile?

If they'd gone to B&M in Northampton to buy some food, instead of going to Mexico to swim in a lagoon, I think their risk of crocodile attack would have been reduced.
What irks me the most is 95% of these people do it "for the gram" and are not actually interested in what they are doing, just get the photos - look cool, bend your knee at a funny angle whilst sticking your tongue out, click click and onto the next. Rinse repeat every day. Look at my life oooh aint I soo attractive and on trend, saving the rainforest, vegan life, click click, look at me with this endangered tiger in my bikini - wait why is it eating my face.... ow... ow... I demand a refund, strongly worded emails, daily mail, die, none of this was my fault, photos, fundraiser, someone else's fault, die again. Light a candle.

Pedants corner, but living in the UK my essential travel needs are pretty-much 100% crocodile-safe.

granted, however I don't think risk of crocodile attack is a factor in deciding on what travel restrictions to put in place. If covid infected animals and resulted in increased aggression toward humans then it would be relevant to the conversation, but as it stands the point comes across as 'they deserved it for flouting covid rules'.

Yeah, I'd agree on there not being much of a link between playing fast and loose with Covid rules, and deserving to be attacked by a crocodile.
Going forward, the sisters just need to get one of those crocodile-repelling rocks they sell in the market. I've been carrying mine around North Staffordshire and South Cheshire for years and it's proved 100% effective, just as the guy said.
Best £80 I ever spent. It's not even that heavy.
