What was going on at Donington Park?

While I was checking out the google earth images Of donington park I noticed what appeared to be the aftermath of an accident at the old hairpin complete with ambulances and recovery vehicles! On the straight behind the pits, a grid of cars looks like they are being held as if under a red flag. Does anyone know what was going on here? Apologies if it’s old news, I just happened to see it.

The cars being ‘held’ are just in the assembly area waiting to start the next race. The ambulances might have been called as the crash was a big hit or the driver can’t get out or similar. It’s more amazing that the exact time that the google image was taken that this was happening

I wondered the same thing a few months ago when looking on Google earth. I tried to see when the pictures were taken but I don't think the dates matched up with any race meeting.

I thought at first it could have been Billy mongers accident but I don't think the location matches and there's no real crowd there, whereas the BTCC usually attracts a sizeable crowd.

I know, which makes it more of a random question. Who would know what is going on, when it could be any given date and it is something which happens all the time at race circuits so unless this instance happened to be a major incident, it wouldn't even raise an eyebrow.

I was there when Billy had his accident - crowd was much bigger & medical attendance much higher too.

Does look like an open wheeled car in the gravel though.

In my defence, it was intriguing because you dont often see stuff like that on google earth and you don’t often see 5 or 6 vehicles in attendance for a car that looks to be a few feet off track (including an ambulance that looks to have driven the wrong way around the track). That fact alone makes it look like it could have been a larger incident which someone here might remember.

That Google image is before the old bridge, Billy's accident was after the bridge, ending up at just about at Schwantz.

Streetview shots do; overheads don't give a precise date as they are often a mix of data sets (to remove cloud, etc)?
