My XC40 P8 arrives mid July so just getting some insurance quotes together The lowest I've had so far is £195 which seems a bit bonkers (not complaining mind) because our X3 35d was £388. Are BEVs generally cheaper to insure in your experience?

Maybe it's in recognition of the fact that if it does get nicked the thieves aren't going to get very far in it.

I don’t know which specific model you have but it could just be as simple as being in a lower insurance group. Your BMW is in group 40 and your Volvo starts at group 32.

It's the Plus - so mid range of the 3 spec levels. All the same BHP and performance. And yes that would make a lot of sense.

We're with Direct Line. My EV was £171, same as our V60.

'Twas LV. Just did the confused.com thing. Will be interesting to see what quotes turn up once we have a delivery date etc.

My Citroen Dispatch was insured with Aviva, they wouldn't cover my e-Dispatch so I had to cancel the policy and start again with Admiral. It’s around the same price, I had thought EV’s were more expensive to insure but that looks to have changed. LV seem to offer good prices.

Tesla's tend to be more to insure, partly due to the straight line performance and partly due to issues with getting spare parts.

Other EVs should be comparable to their ICE counterparts.

My Kona EV is £188 with business class 1.

Perhaps they are cheap as they are quite difficult to crash with the lane keep assist, radar brake assist, driver monitoring, blind spot warning etc.
