...sorry, but you've probably heard it all before, but I love firefox. Loaded it up a few days back, and it is absolutely fabulous! Had absolutely no crap like IE normally gives me!! I'm no computer wizard, so just kept pootling along with ie, but plucked up the courage to load it up, and well chuffed!!!

Expect no replies to this, just needed to say..Thanks firefox!!!

Now you need to install some good extensions, try www.www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showforum=2

Some of the best are customizegoogle, minimize to tray, session saver, reload tabs, tabbed browser enhancements to name a few!

There's more 'bits' to add to FF than for a chavs nova!

Andy,

When you have a minute, check this out - it speeds up Firefox a treat - well worth the 40+ seconds it takes to do.

Just a smal point, but on an audi website I go to, all the screen under the address bar bounces up and down, on occasion... wtf is this, and is there a way to stop it? It only happens every now and than, but its a bit annoying!

What sort of trouble does I.E. give people, BTW?

I use IE and never have any sort of "trouble" with it! I've been using IE since V3.0!

I tried ff & it was really really slow, even with that tweak. It was awful so I Binned it. Any clues as to why?

I'm not sure if you'll remember but a while back MS were sued by Netscape for unfair competition. It all stemmed from the fact that MS changed the way windows and IE worked so that the two were tied together completely - it's all to do with file type associations and how that bumph works. Well, thats the problem with IE - it's embedded into the OS.

Technically there isn't anything wrong with IE - it renders pages well enough (although it follows it's own standards), but with FF I don't worry about spyware, adverts, pop-ups, pop-unders, tracing programs, malicious code and exploits which could render my machine useless. Combine FF with Thunderbird (the mozilla email client) and most virii can be ignored

To make a quick analogy, FF is an HS4 and IE is a ECU - Both are needed to make the car work, but the HS4 can be changed to a different carb completely or you can tweak the needles, thin the butterflies, change the springs... whereas you're stuck with the ECU and how it works (ok so you can change the ECU, but you get the idea).

Depends on what you want really.

As for it going slowly, it's a little slower to load up the first time, but after that it should render pages much quicker than IE does.

Doesn't matter.. Had bookmark toolbar on, with no bookmarks in it...

And althought I've only had it a few days, it seems very quick, once its open, and its bliss not having all the crap being put on my computer. My spybot software has had little to do!

But I don't worry about these things either! I've never had any spyware on my box - although I do run "anti-spyware" its never detected anything. The odd JavaScript virus on a page has been spotted by my anti-virus in the past but...nothing, nada, zip has ever infected my PC. Now I suppose I do run a proper firewall, use WindowsUpdate regularly and I'm smart enough that when a window appears saying "Do you trust FuucckYourMachine Softwarre Inc to install MachineFuuccker Control on your PC?" to press the No button...

One day maybe...but so far I really haven't had any trouble whatsoever!

I tried FF out of curiosity and have carried on using it because of the Mouse Gestures, they make browsing faster and easier (imho).

Tell you what is a joke, using OWA through Firefox.

Defaults to the spaz Basic View. Nowt you can do to get the whizzy IE55SP2 and later front end working.

Other than that, I could not agree more.

Maybe I don't fully understand, but why not just write standards compliant web pages? That way everyone gets a good browsing experience, and MS doesn't get a monopoly.

... just a curiosity, but does firefox have an inbuilt download manager, because its downloading at approx 5-800 Kbs... That is damn fast, and never seen speed like that even with download managers...
