DB9.2V Rattles & Squeaks - Again!

Sorry for yet another thread on this

1) Has anyone had experience of a very loud squeak which appears to come from behind the dashboard? The noise is loud enough to be heard by pedestrians as I drive by – and I thought the occasional squeaking from the CC brakes was embarrassing. I’ve removed the basic dashboard trim panels and can’t see any obvious cause. Before I just fill behind the dash with spray foam (only joking) or start serious dismantling of the dash has anyone any thoughts of where to try first. It’s possible it may be coming from the front suspension and just sounding like it’s behind the dash. Any thoughts about where to look first would be really appreciated.

2) Buzzy metallic rattle from what appears to be the driver’s door. It sounds like a loose nut but having taken the door card off I couldn’t see anything loose or obviously missing/broken. I guess it could also be something that’s fallen into the bowels of the door or not from the door at all.

Would anyone with similar problems who has managed to fix them like to share their solution please.

I have 2) in my Vantage. Have not managed to pin it down. Sometimes I think it’s the speaker other times I wonder if it is the mirror.

I doubt that a squeak from behind the dash could be heard by pedestrians. My first thought from your description would be suspension bushes in the front wishbone arms, or possibly roll-bar - I'm sure I've read here they can dry out and make a noise with small inputs. I believe the wishbone remedy is currently new arms, although there are companies offering new bushes

Thanks - I think the speaker is exposed when the door card is off so I'll try driving it like that and see if gently holding the speaker cone stops it.

Thank you- that's interesting- it does seem to be worse in the summer - presumably when everything is a bit drier. The car still has some Timeless warranty left so hopefully if it's the wishbones it should be covered. Do you know if it's easy/possible to see/check this if the car is on a 2 post lift?

No idea. I guess it depends on the input required to generate the squeak and whether you can do this with the suspension hanging.

This guy seemed to have the same problem on a DB9

I'd be inclined to try to find a piece of road that creates the noise (speed humps?), preferably at low speed and drive it with your windows down to try to identify which side - you could also have a friend stand by the roadside if it's that loud. I'll bet the Aston suspension is so firm you couldn't just bounce the car by hand and hear it.

I think you’re right; the suspension is definitely too firm to bounce the car – probably end up with handprints in the panels.

I may be able to just lift the car off the ground and use a separate jack to apply a small amount of load under a front wheel to see if I can recreate it.

Based on Aston1936’s video I’m not sure the sounds I’m hearing are the same – there’s no creaking just a very loud and irritating squeak. However, his idea of using a small camera to capture the movement and hopefully the noise is an interesting one and may provide proof one way or the other.
