Remote oil filter-Ford pre-crossflow
Discussion
Hi - I run a pre crossflow with a remote filter. Mine is also dry sumped. I would try to keep the filter low down at a similar height to the original filter to avoid air locks. If you're near Basingstoke pm me and you can come visit. Its a strange five bearing 1300cc precrossflow from a Mk2 Cortina. Sorry about the photo but you can just see the Mocal under the chassis rail.

It is worth considering installing a pair of oil coolers using a thermostatically controlled sandwich plate and adding a couple of oil coolers. It is a simple case of re-routing the raw water to the water injection elbow via the oil cooler.
You would obviously need 1 cooler per engine - a worthwhile mod, no thermostatic control means the oil runs the risk of being overcooled.
You want something like a bowman DC50/60 with 1/2 BSP ports to match the Mocal sandwich plate ports.

I think the Ebay one is the bog standard one and the Burton is high pressure and high capacity ?
I'd forgotten I also needed the remote filter as the dry sump pump doesn't have a spin on.
FYI I'm building up another precrossflow using a crossflow 1300 block to get the nice neoprene crank seal and solve the old cork
gasket oil leak problem ...
Can we see a picture of the boat please ?!
Oil cooling is worth considering.
That is a better set up than the original Watermota conversion, direct raw water cooled leads to silting of number 4 cylinder, I have just done a Mk2 Freeman 23 that was getting hot under the collar and did its head gasket.
The other issue with the original engine mounted pump is it dumps river water into the sump when the seals fail.
as far as an electric replacement that isn't engine driven is concerned you can have potential issues, you need to be sure the pump cant run when the engine is stopped, triggering it from a relay powered off the ignition coil would work but it isn't the best of ideas as you run the risk of filling the manifold with water if she wont start - you will get full flow rate from an electric pump rather than a proportional flow rate with an engine driven pump.
the later crank driven are better - I have had success with a Johnson F4B mounted the the crank pulley on a Kubota D722 diesel I marinised. like this

The Freeman 26 is a nice old tub, you have it on a good spot on the Broads.
My own boat is an Elysian 27 down on the Nene, BMC 1500 diesel much modified and now turbocharged.
