Hi all. next time your out in your Tamoras and T350s could you please note what revs the engine is doing at 80mph in 5th gear [my T350 is at 3000 revs at this speed]. Want to know for sure that a Tamora has different gearing to a T350. Cheers.

OK, just been for yet another great long drive in the Tam.
I have a C/R box, but 4th and 5th gear ratios are the same. In 5th gear at 70, I have 2850 revs, at 4000 revs I am doing around 95mph.

Hope that helps

(

Chris,

Of course you extrapolated the 95mph based on other speeds and revs and we Trevor owners would never dream of breaking the speed limit!!!! )

I have extrapolated that (theoretically) mine will do exactly 80mph @ 3000 rpm in 5th.

I did note though after I jumped into the T350 from the Tamora that the revs to speed was different (you get to know this after the speedo sensor dies so many times!)

Whilst on track, the T350 max'ed out in 1st @ 57ish, 2nd @ 85 mph. No idea what a Tam would do though.

Oh yes, that was 95mph in my garage!!

I thought the ratios were the same for both Tamora and T350?? The gearbox I now have in my Tam is from a Tuscan S!! (thanks Mongoose!! ) I have got to 62 in 1st gear with this gearbox, and around 95ish in 2nd, although I couldn't be 100% of 100% accuracy, as going at that speed in 2nd requires me to look ahead at all times!! and it sets the Road Angel off every time I accelerate like that, bloody thing! lol

Oh yes, what the hell is wrong with my damn broadband connection??? keeps dropping, this is the 4th attempt at replying!!!!

PPS, and I've just recieved what looks and feels like 1st degree burns to my arms after foolishly checking the oil after yet another long drive!!! would have thought I'de have learnt by now!!!

PPS, Where the hell is everyone??? lol

Probably all fallen after a roasting in the Tiv!

Are you sure it's a close ratio then Chris?

Hiya!!! lol

Yep positive its close ratio, there was no way I could get close to 60 in the standard box I had before.

Just looked at the ratios for the close box in the book and you're right. 1st is very tall and 2nd and 3rd are pushed towards 4th.

80mph in top is just under 3000rpm in my T350 with a close ratio box. 3000rpm in 5th gives me 81 (in 4th its 66mph, 3rd is 54, 2nd is 45 and 1st is about 27/28 - I'm not too good at holding perfectly steady revs in first). Compared to Chris W. 4000 in top would give (theoretically) 108 so my close ratio box is almost certainly different to his. Unless we have different wheel sizes or there is a large discrepancy between our speedos. Incidentally my speedo slightly over-registers below about 50mph (compared to Road Angel reading) but is pretty much spot on from there owards, though I can't vouch for mega speeds veracity.

Odd there seems to be such a difference! I was told there are only 2 types of gearbox available as standard, the normal and the C/R, which are totally interchangeable throughout the model range (mines off a 2003 Tuscan S) I have 18" wheels, and my speedo is more or less spot on (also have satnev and Road Angel confirm this, always no more than 1mph out, at any speed (even 130 on a runway!)

Very odd. Can be two things I surpose:

A: the diffs are different hydro v normal?
B: The guys who build the gearboxes have a bag of gears to choose from. Pick and mix sort of thing...

True

I often wonder if I have Hydratrack on mine, as spinning the back wheels aint easy, it REALLY needs provocking to lose traction! How could I find out?

Lie on your back while Chan reverses over you and look for the writing on the diff (or your forehead ). Or maybe you could use your reserving camera, just point it underneath and upwards as far as you can stretch.

You're obviously not been generous enough with the revs

The hydratrak only really helps when doing doughnuts
