Reading the 3rd page of the Motortrend GT2 review (linked below), it mentions that the ECU cuts power on application of the brake. Is this a special treat for the Americans or have VW/Audi invaded Stuttgart?

The latter I think. Same deal in Mk2 GT3.

GT3's do it as well. If you have your foot on the Gas and apply the brake it cuts the power after a few seconds.

However...

If you brake first then apply the power it doesnt.

You could say that it is to stop the more inexperianced panic braking and hitting the throttle at the same time...

Or you could blame the colonies.

Your call.

That really disappoints me

So much for being the ultimate drivers cars.

A couple of guys over on the RennTech forum have been trying to disable this with at least partial success.

Most new cars do it now, even my VW van does it. Safety feature..... but why on 460+ bhp supercars??

Thanks for the link Bob.

Might not be much of a problem for me, as the only time I'd want throttle and LFB is for a spin control technique I've only practised on an airfield, and I think I'd have come off the throttle before needing to reapply in that circumstance anyway. Not that its a technique I see myself trying anywhere but on an airfield either

All porsche with e-gas (basically fly by wire throttle) have this - think it was introduced in 2000 as is required for PSM. The Mk1 GT3 has an old-fashioned mechanical linkage so you can apply both accel and brake at the same time.

I discovered this unfortunate fact about the Mk2 GT3 whilst trying not to brake test a moron sitting 2 inches from my rear bumper on a busy highway. (Before I get flamed, no-where to move over, slowish traffic in all lanes, blah blah)

In other cars, my usual technique is to light up the brake lights whilst maintaining constant acceleration, but on this occasion it almost resulted in the bugger rear-ending me.
