Back in the olden days, so 2007 -2009 I used to dabble a little in web design. Mainly for a couple of ex service associations.
I didn't know a great deal, I had an evaluation (pirate) copy of DreamWeaver and a Dummies guide. With these I was going to be part of the dot com bubble and make loadsamoney.
Sadly it wasn't to be, I think I did about 6 sites and made about £300 in total.
I had my own website and used the webspace for hosting images I posted on forums etc. One of the websites I authored was for an ex-naval association and on part of it I linked a copy of Clarke and Dawe's "The Front Fell Off" sketch.

Having obtained a copy of Flash - again for "evaluation" purposes I converted the video to flash, embedded it in a page and put a the text "Tanker" on a forum. It was shared a few times, and then went viral.
I got a call from my hosts a few days later - I had been moved onto my own server as I was causing a bit of a slow down on the shared server.
I looked at the logs and for one day my website's bandwidth was over 140Gb and was in the top 2,500 busiest sites in the world!
I was explaining this to my son the other day - he's got something like 20 followers on TikTok. A quick google search shows it even made it onto PH - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

There’s obviously a story in there trying to get out and it could be good. I’m not very tech savvy though, to say the least, and there’s a lot of words and numbers I don’t understand.
Could someone please give me a rundown in English of what happened. Imagine you’re talking to a seven year old with learning difficulties and that will be about the right level for me.
The old responses on PH back in the day indicate something very funny and I feel like I’m missing out.

As a comparison I was involved in the fibre network for e-Merlin
At the time designed (2003/4) when operating each fibre would have been at max capacity the network would have been carrying more traffic in a second than the internet UK (approx 160GB/s to take a photo for which the exposure time could last for hours).
The timing in SDH/TDM wasn't precise enough for them so the University built their own correlator to sit on the end of the fibres. I recall being shown one of the boards, around 24 P4 processors on it, and that was only one of the boards.

The Clarke and Dawe "Front Fell Off" sketch was referenced a week or two ago in a Reddit post in r/JustRolledIntoTheShop. I had never heard of Clarke and Dawe before this but their work, and especially that sketch, is brilliant. Since then I've noticed lots of references to the front falling off on Reddit. I wonder if this might have driven some traffic your way?
