List of Universities Facilities

I wondered if anyone knows where there is a list of what facilities universities have?

The reason I ask is that we (where I work) would like some lab testing carried out on some or our equipment, and it came up in discussion that maybe it is work that could be carried out by a university.

Some strength testing, drop ball, three point bend, abrasion etc on some glass samples.

Maybe I'm searching wrong, but struggling to come up with a list of uni's to get in touch with to discuss if it would be possible.

Pretty much any decent university with an engineering department would have those facilities.

I’d start asking at your nearest ones.

Offer to do some guest lectures as well and you'll be on a winner...

Could open up a decent relationship and help with future product testing etc...

OP, profile says Lincoln so try the Uni first though it's pretty small so not sure what their facilities are like.

Failing that Sheffield isn't too far away and both Hallam and Uni of have superb engineering and testing facilities.

Also Nottingham and Leeds.

It's a shame as I work in a lab that does all that in Worksop. The shame is that we test internally so no paid work or favours. We do use Sheffield Hallam quite a bit for some stuff and would recommend them.

I've emailed someone at Lincoln Uni who's job title suggest he might be able to answer my questions. Let's see what comes back and take it from there.

In my experience you'd get a better service and more than likely cheaper going to a professional test lab, Element, SGS, Rotech, NTS, TUV - whatever is nearest to you... Universities can often be more hassle than they're worth and they have their own agendas and providing a speedy commercial service is often not top of their list.

I used to work at a uni, it wasn’t uncommon to outsource work as it was cheaper than in house.

Loogabarooga's not far from Lincoln and has a pretty good engineering dept.

Unless you have friends in the Uni, I would go to a local test house.
