What are the panel's views on this?

Have UK government properly considered the safety of cabbies, coach drivers, hotel, bar and restaurant staff, general public?

Or perhaps the risk really isn't that great?

Seems to fly in the face of restrictions for the rest of us continuing until mid July.

I admit to being conflicted on this issue. On the one hand, as a football fan I love the idea of the final three games being at Wembley - especially if they feature England (ha! fat chance!). On the other hand there's the "one rule for them, another for us" message it sends out.

Perhaps if it was spun as a step towards normality it might be seen as a positive sign?

Wasn't it only last month that Wembley lost the UCL Final due to the UK Government not allowing the skipping of quarantine rules to happen ?

But now they are when we are still under restrictions?

It's a pisstake and i'm not surprised that people aren't taking any notice anymore.

1 rule for us, 1 rule for the elite.

Stuff like this and the G7 fiasco can only serve as a catalyst for more people to stop complying. Good. Rile people up so we can go back to "normality" quicker.

At the infection rates on planes of around 1%, thats an additional 25 case.......hardly a major issue methinks, given current daily cases....

This is THE most important facet to me. Leadership avoids doing this like the plague and Governments of all hues have been doing it more and more.

The risk is tiny and they should be able to come. However, letting the G7 and UEFA VIPs bypass the restrictions whilst we are still exposed to them is a complete piss take! If the government want the restrictions then live by them and accept the implications

It’s a total disgrace.

If true, how can the government stand by and defend the idea that a football match is more important than getting the decimated travel industry back on its feet? The whole concept of quarantine or isolation is the major stumbling block in reopening international travel to tourists and holidaymakers; the airline industry has been pleading with govt ministers for over a year now to expeditiously implement a just, fair and transparent system in order for quarantine-free travel to resume where possible, yet we still have a “broken system” mandating quarantine from an overwhelming majority of destinations.

Yet suddenly, these industry-crippling restrictions can be lifted for a football match to take place at Wembley?! It effectively says that quarantine in reality is unnecessary, if the government can pick and choose who they apply to and somehow they don’t apply to footballers…

Sometimes you get a really clear look at the two tier rules system in place in this country.

G7 was another good look at how the rules don't matter if its something they deem important.

How do they need 2500 officials? Surely theres the 5 we need in the country already:1 ref, 2 side line and the Tv judge? The Tv networks can use BBC footage/their reporters in the UK already. Possible exemption for the 25 or so members of the each team provided they fly in on a private plane/direct transfer to the stadium. otherwise, here for work? 2 week quarantine, deal with it.
Or they can put up a covid bond of say £1million each. Any cases they bring in and they don't get their money back.

Same reason football was approved to be played last year via television audience only- placate the masses

“Give em some football and they will accept everything else we chuck at them”

I thought there had always been exemptions for sport, broadcasters, diplomats, and quite a few other work related travel. This doesn't sound like much of a story to me!

I think they stopped a while ago, mostly after the first lockdown it seems in my area.

The Norwegian government recently decided to drop out of the running to host the winter Olympics because of the demands of the bigwigs. As a country which sees itself as very egalitarian, the government decided they could not allow the IOC to have favourable treatment.

Shows how much real fear there is of this “killer plague” if it’s allowed to go ahead, along with the other events enjoyed by the wealthy and influential rolleyes

It’s for the greater good, to hopefully make a case for a World Cup, so on that basis a risk worth taking.
