I opened my letter from the council today fully expecting another 0 year but bugger me they are going to charge me.
Now it is a massively reduced bill on full rates and probably less than I would have paid last year had the virus not arrived but I'm still surprised there is a bill. I suppose services need some income to cover costs.
Anyone else had a bill?

What business are you in? Retail, hospitality or leisure I assume?

I'm in retail. I have to pay from July but get 66% discount off memory.

Plus must be England - or large premises - as Wales has 100% relief for under 500k RV extended for the year.

Yes retail and in England. It's a good discount and I hadn't kept up with gov changes but I suppose I was a little surprised invoices had been brought back in. Perhaps unreasonably.

ETA, from HMG
"On 3 March 2021 the government confirmed that the Expanded Retail Discount would continue to apply in 2021/22 at 100% for three months, from 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2021, and at 66% for the remaining period, from 1 July 2021 to 31 March 2022. "

There is due to be an extra £1.5 billion of relief heading to companies, but how it is to be allocated has not been announced yet.

It will once again go to retail / hospitality & ignore everyone else.

One of my businesses lost 50% of revenue last year, was partially closed due to Govt regulation, yet qualified for no grants & no relief - £24k pa business rates payable.

A charity I’m involved with, conversely, made a lot *more* revenue in grants last year than in a regular year - lockdown was profitable!

I’m pretty annoyed at the way this has all been distributed TBH.

The way the money has been distributed is certainly not fair! The government has also prevented people appealing their rateable value to the impact of Covid. So those affected but without any of the reliefs etc are stuffed!
