horrible rumble
Discussion
back end rumble getting very bad, so suspect n/s rear bearing.
Could use some tips on identifying axle to source correct bearing type - as it came from a pile of scrap axles i have no idea what car it came from, though sure it is ford. it sports two oblique brackets at about 45 deg offset between spring mounts and dif. handbrake linkage attached to nearside rear of axle

i believe [in my drunken state] rear wheel bearings are the same mk 1 and 2
bad bit is getting old one off
if press not available angle grinder and hammer
cut the fu... i mean thing off
oh thats after slide hammering shaft out
get plus gas not wd40
or another penetrating oil
spent a day slide hammering failed
sprayed plusgas on it next day 2 pulls and i fell over backwards
u need slide hammer definately
or sledge hammer and a chain
hammering back of old rims does not work
i know lol
pulled 4 recently cos i broke 2 difs 3 no prob
one ....well i already said a day
and that was the effed bearing maybe it was heat that stuck it???
if theres another axle about just change shaft is easier
new bearings are still available for under 20 quid
getting old one off is more of a prob
i have a slide hammer
i know how to do it
but trust me second hand shaft is easy lol

Easiest way is to break cage and remove balls
then outer race and cut through inner with angle grinder - cut almost through in 2 opposite places and then hit it to break the race. You'll need to be careful but it does work.
Don't grind into the axle though but slight nicks won't hurt.
Then you need a press to put the new ones on. Don't be tempted to bodge this bit as shocking the bearing with a hammer may damage the races as the balls bounce around (sorry about all this 'delicate' humour.
