Morning

I signed on the line for a new bike yesterday (S1000RR M pack) and it'll be my first ever new vehicle so I'm keen to keep it as immaculate as possible for as long as possible. I'm considering PPF so have a few questions;

Is it easy enough to DIY fit?
Does it change the appearance of the bike?
Is it easy enough to remove without damage if necessary?
Any particular brand better than others?

Thank you in advance. I did ask the dealer to quote for supplying the bike fitted but whilst the price was fine, it would have delayed me getting the bike by weeks so I'll either fit it myself or find a local place who can do it sooner.

I buy the film from eBay(search for helicopter film) and using a combibation of paper and card, make my own templates and cut out the film to suit.

The quality is good enough to disguise the fim, over time it does feather a bit on the edges (just starting to see it now at 20,000 miles).

As the idea is to protect the paint , the asthetics of the film doesnt bother me , I suppose I could re-apply it but Im not that fussed, you may feel the same at year 3!

All the types ive removed have come away fine after use.

The specific kits are without doubt better than my set up and applying it to curved areas can be tricky but its a lot of money but as you would expect, they do a cracking job of it.

Im sure someone will have uploaded some “how to “ videos on youtube.

No1 bit of protection id invest in would be a rad guard, I had mine fitted from new by BMW before it had turned a wheel..

I fitted a bike specific 3m kit to my new f800gs. With the benefit of a few youtube videos and a bit of patience.... no really trouble fitting it. I was pleased with the result and the protection.

Thanks chaps, I'll get a kit ordered and cross my fingers it doesn't pick up any stone chips on the 40 mile ride home!!

Re rad guards - totally agree, run them for years and got some thrown in with the deal smile

i have had several from this business (local to me)

once you get the knack its OK but needs a lot of patience/can be frustrating to get one part done to find an air bubble in another bit

Thanks, I'll check them out. None of the big names list the thickness which is disappointing.

So I've spent many hours trying to apply this st to my bike now and have deduced two things;

1) Fitting PPF takes skill and patience
2) I have an insufficient supply of either of the above

It's now sat in a heap in the corner of the garage. I'll be calling a professional on Monday!

I can see how that happened lol.
It just takes time and a bit of practise until you get the hang of it. Warm day, manipulating it with your hand and using a hair dryer all help.
That being said, it is not my favourite job, just a means unto an end.
Let us know how you get on with the pros.

I did manage to put pieces on, largely thanks to the heat gun I borrowed, but most of the bits just looked crap so I took them off again. Hopefully I can find a pro to fit it for me for not too much cash!

Pics as requested smile
