Kit Cars and Classics
Discussion
Hi folks, am new to PistonHeads and looking for help /advice. After throwing away my wheelchair following a stroke and now being the user of almost all my faculties (physical at least !!) i am reading
about kit cars etc but don,t want to jump in the deep end just yet so my plan is this,I. I have just purchased a 1966 beetle rolling chassis with old style V5 and fitted with a Fiesta XR2 engine . By coincidence I also have an old Covin shell ,on which I intend extending the wheelbase to fit the unaltered beetle chassis (you,ve probably heard this hundreds of times and know where i,m going) I seem to remember some talk about notifying DVLA about engine change on beetle then later telling them about change of body style . I can remember something about having to take taking pics of beetle with reg no. then doing the deed.
Is it really as simple as that or am I missing something ?
Sorry this is so long winded and thanks in advance for any advice

Hi and thanks very much for the update, I,m sending change of engine details off to DVLA anyway
and i,ll keep digging .Spoke to a guy this morning who recently phoned DVLA and was told he was ok to rebody old misubishi panel van (seperate chasss) with vw splitty body as they are the same dimensions with just change of v5 details. Amazing how everybody knows somebody. LOL
might have some pics if and when it,s done. Thanks again
