That is a sad day for Hong Kong, I had a short stopover in 2017 and wanted so much to revisit again and explore, I found it fascinating, I'll never go there now.

I expect this will also affect international trade via HK.

Indeed. It’s my favourite place to visit in the world. Gutted for the people.

I worked there in 2008 and 2017-20. It’s not what it was, and not in a good way. Almost all of our friends have left or are leaving.

I hope HKs loss will be the UKs gain as the BNOs move over

Yeah, I've worked there on and off for the last 30 years as well. Great city, great people and now being taken apart by the mainlanders (Chinese) as retribution for the Umbrella Riots.

They also cracked down on the prostitution in the bars around Wan Chai that HK was infamous for as well. First they had undercover Chinese cops luring the girls to a hotel room. Where immigration was waiting to put them on a plane (most hookers are Philippino on maid visas) .
Once the girls got wise to this (they wouldn't go with Chinese customers anymore), the Chinese started using Westerners (detectives and ex-military types) to do the same thing.

Lots of other subversion going on as well.

Especially the candle vigil HK used to hold for Tiananmen square massacre, that event won't be happening again.

And here's an interesting story about HSBC troubles in the region.....
