Selling car to a dodgy buyer

I've been trying to sell my dads yaris for him but got hardly any replies probably because I put it up for a lot. However now I put the price down and got a few more replies. Including 1 guy who said half price cash tomorrow. Wasn't willing to accept, said I'll give £50 off max. He's know been emailing me saying he will pay full price through PayPal. I'm selling my car through a website which includes gum and tree. I told him cash only or bank transfer straight. Planning to eBay auction it this weekend because I've had enough with this car, need it gone tbh.

It's my first time selling a car. Anyone else had a similar experience?

block him, stick it on facebook and if its priced sensibly it will go in 24 hours

Yeah I’d block him.

Also be wary of the guys more than willing to pay asking and cause no trouble… only for the police to turn up a week later as the car was used in a robbery…

Never, EVER take PayPal for something like this - from what you've said it sounds like you're going to get scammed.

Paypal is a common and obvious scam. Cash or bank transfer and only when they are in front of you and the car.

I'm trying to sell an electric mountain bike on FB messenger at the moment - it's not pleasant. The interest it's attracting isn't from people who I am comfortable dealing with; a lot of proper oiks.

However you sell it do not forget to let DVLA know online. Simple to do but it must be done between 07:00 to 19:00 any day.

WBAC seems to pay me peanuts, it's an 03 plate yaris. I emailed mr Dodgy man asking cash on collection or bank transfer. Not replied. Good thing i trusted my instinct and asked on here. Annoys me to think I work hard to get what I have and scumbags are out here trying to scam.

Never take PayPal for a car sale
Even for a cheap car too risky

As above list it on Facebook market place and will sell quickly at sensible price put loads of photos of good and bad bits and include as much info in your description - how long he’s owned it number of owners number of keys any details on service history and any recent works done should sell in couple of days

Autotrader was full of numpties when i listed my 508, it sold on ebay without issue.

It’s unscientific, but there’s a lot to be said for trusting your gut. If something doesn’t feel right about the buyer, walk away.

I found the complete opposite. Before it was online, Autotrader used to be better because you only got people who actually wanted a car and bought it.
Now it’s online you get numpties who just look for something to do and most the time aren’t serious.

As a private seller, you can now list on AutoTrader for free if the car is being advertised for less than £1,000. Given that it's an 18-year-old Yaris, I'm guessing this is probably the case.

Usually I would agree with whoever said about sticking it on eBay with no reserve, but I did this with my Rover last week and the winning bidder has been ignoring me ever since. To relist I would have to pay another £14.99, and who's to say it wouldn't happen again?

I got PX requests, what warranty to I offer ... every lead was a waste of time, I had 2 genuine enquiries off ebay and sold to the first who viewed.

WBAC would buy it, even if not for much.

My sister sold her 2006 Mini Cooper to them on Saturday. She didn't get much, but it had damage to most panels, serious lacquer peel on the paint and a suspect head gasket so didn't have high expectations anyway!

But she didn't have to deal with people not turning up or chancers wanting it for nothing.

Although I did sell an 18 year old Mazda 323f on Gumtree in 2014 pretty painlessly, and it was free!

join a closed mtb forum and sell on there. It will be a lot safer as they are so nickable.
