I have broken my 12 month old Panasonic LED tv!!

The socket the co-ax aerial plugs into on the tv has snapped off (and apparently is not cost effective to replace!)
I do not have satellite at this location.

My question is:
Is there some other way to get a signal from the co-ax aerial (perhaps by plugging into an adapter that then goes into a HDMI or RGB socket etc, etc)

Any help for a simpleton would be much appreciated before I scrap a perfectly good TV.

Got any mates who know how to use a soldering iron ? Whilst I've not seen the board in question, I'd wager it wouldn't be too tricky to fit a new socket.

Post a photo of what the dodgy socket looks like. There may be a way of soldering a connection to it.
Also, you don't need to scrap it if it has HDMI or phono sockets as other people could still make use of it. You could sell it as it is.

If it can’t be soldered back on then you could get a separate freeview box.

I don’t know anybody competent enough to repair it.
I will take a photo tomorrow. The broken socket is not like the normal sturdy looking sockets you find on all the other TVs I have had.

so what you're saying, is that it's still within it's warrantee period wink

This is the easy option - there are 16 pages of results for Freeview box when you search on Amazon.

I was hoping something like this may be an option.

With a freeview box , presumably the co-ax aerial plugs into the box but where then do the leads from the freeview box plug in? (are they HDMI?) If so this would cure the problem.

Connect the freeview box to the TV with an HDMI.

This means you must have the freeview box switched on to see a picture on the TV, you'll have no means of a picture to the TV without it.

I have precisely this setup in a holiday cottage I rent out. I bought a BT youview box for £40 off eBay and so you have full PVR functionality as well.

That seems the answer.
