I've recently bought a 2016 Manual M2. It drives absolutely fine but have noticed some odd transmission noises. On idle it makes a feint ticaticaticatica noise which disappears when the clutch is depressed.

When you put it in gear, there's a very light clunk from the transmission as it goes in. No problems at all getting it in gear. When you engage the clutch at low speeds there is also a light clunk which sounds like its coming from the rear diff.

Any thoughts, could it be the clutch dragging a bit. Not sure how that could be the light clunk from the diff when the clutch is released.

Mine does the diff clunk very occasionally. You'll soon get used to the clutch action and that shouldn't happen often anymore. They don't have a clutch delay valve so they require a little more precision from 1st to second in particular.

Can't comment about the other noise, perhaps normal injector noise?. Do you have a BMW warranty? (not that you're likely to need it, they are very solid cars).

Not sure if M2s have a dual mass flywheel but the sound you describe when the clutch is up reminds me of the DMF on my old Z4 Coupe which started to make that noise after about 50k miles. Does it go away when you slightly depress the clutch pedal?

No idea on the clonking noise when you go into gear.

Thrust bearing on the clutch can make a similar noise which disappears when you press the clutch, I always found M manuals clunky especially when cold and that’s going back to a relatively new E36 and E46 M3’s

You do sometimes get a bit of noise from the rear diff however even the manual mentions that this is totally normal (only noticeable at slow speed).

You’re issue does however sound a bit like the DMF as mentioned above. Do you get a rattle when turning the car off with the clutch pedal up which isn’t present when you turn off with the clutch pedal down?

Also on Nick’s point above - these do have a CDV, it’s seemingly now in the clutch cylinder itself as opposed to being on the line as was previously common on BMWs.

From looking at some videos of dmf noise on YouTube, I'd say this is the most likely problem. Time to see how good the warranty is.

Cheers, that's good to know. They've massively improved the system compared to the annoying CDV in the N52. It's very unobtrusive, which may explain why I thought it wasn't there.
