Wine and online auctions - who ever thought that it would end well?

Bought a 1973 Rover P5B coupe for less than the minimum estimate. Even with auction and shipping costs it's still (hopefully) a bit cheaper than others on the market at the moment.

Hopefully being delivered on Saturday. Can't wait!

Some minor blemishes, but really happy.

Many years ago I was taking part in a classic car run and walked along the line-up with my O/H of the time. I pointed and said, "I'd really like one of those, they're one of the best British cars from the '60s."

"Yes, it's quite cute, isn't it? " was her reply.

She was looking at a Morris 1000 saloon, not the P5B Coupe parked behind it...

Congratulations well done SD, roll on Saturday! I miss my two Coupes, a 1970 zircon blue one and a 1973 white one but have always liked the silver birch & admiralty blue combo. Does it have any history with it....? If it's a '73 it could be one of the last built. It looks to be all there with the sill trim strips being present, which are usually missing and looks nicely restored, or at least partially restored. More pics and details when it arrives please! wink

Wood looks to be very good, aftermarket stereo may need to go eventually for a more period piece and the wiring will need to be tidied up.

Any recommendations for modern 1970's look stereos?

That really is a very nice example, quite a beauty.... have you ever owned one before SD...? wink

Alfaholics do a small modern but period looking radio that might be suitable.

Magic thumbup

When I was bimbling around in my TVR I often used to chuckle at the thought that I basically had the grandchild of that car under my bonnet. hehe

Period radios can be stupidly expensive though.

You can get a "retro car radio" on aliexpress for less than £20. I know people who have fitted them and are happy, they are not as deep as a modern unit too which helps with fitment in a classic. Depends how much you want to spend, because like you say, those blaupunkt retro style ones are many hundreds, i think they are more for the 80's Ferrari owner market.

these days you can hide an amp and a Bluetooth receiver somewhere and just do everything from your phone, as an alternative.

That really does look like a good example.

I've owned my P5B Coupe for over 20 years now and every trip is an occasion.

Happy to help with advice on parts and any issues you may have with it. Where in the country are you?

I do wonder if this is a car that used to belong to a friend if mine.

Oh and Hi P5Nij wavey - Long time no speak.

Very nice.

Get your partner to drive, go and sit in the back and you can pretend to be a 1970's Prime Minister.

I'm based in North West England, car is in Plymouth.

Happy for all help and advice, this is my first classic. Nothing like starting off big!

True

I have a Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46 in the 911 and wanted to get a replacement to rip out the guts and put a DAB radio inside the case, until I saw how much they go for.

I did find one in the end for £40 but didn't have the heart to destroy it frown

Nice old cars.

I converted my dad’s one to electronic ignition, as it was being a right swine. That was money well spent.

This particular car has the *sacrilege* of the auto box having been chucked on the floor and an LT77 fitted. Works rather well, though the clutch is a tad heavy. Not a five minute job as you’d imagine, and LT77s are getting rare.

Easy to bimble about in making woffle woffle noises as it is though!
