Hopefully this is the right place to ask this sort of thing?
My sister in law has purchased a 2002 Audi A2 from a local garage for £2000. It has full history and a new mot.
There was a small problem of slow wipers, apparently very slow and have now stopped working altogether.
She has been into Audi and the parts required (relay) should cost £90 but are no longer available and has been advised to find a crashed A2 at a breakers yard.
The garage have said that cars of that value dont have a warranty because of its low value, this doesnt seem fair to me.

If your sister in law gets no joy from the seller, I'd have her get a second opinion on the wipers. A relay is a switch and is either on or off. it won't cause the wipers to be slow. The A2 has a known problem of the wiper arm spindles seizing in the bushings. My sister in law has purchased a 2002 Audi A2 from a local garage for £2000. It has full history and a new mot.

A quick search also suggests that poor / bad earth is a common cause of this on A2s - try earthing between the wiper motor body and the chassis / engine.(Depending on when she bought it, it doesn't matter if it cost 50p - CRA should apply. But I doubt it's worth the hassle)
Tried eBay for the part?
It’s a 19 year old car so I guess Audi probably don’t make some parts for it anymore.
Was it made clear no warranty was supplied with the car?
As mentioned, you have rights in terms of buying from a garage but it sounds like the garage will not be helpful and trying to get a refund for the car for the sake of wipers seems not worth it either

If it was bought from a dealer then, you'll get 90 days of warranty so I'd be going back to the dealer.
I'm doubting myself now, bearing in mind it's you, but the 90 day warranty thing is often dismissed as nonsense. There's no requirement to give any warranty. CRA assumes fault pre-exisiting for 6 months unless the dealer can prove otherwise - and that's not as black and white as it sounds.

In scenarios like this I actually feel slightly bad for used car dealers - being expected to fix stuff on a 19 year old shed that's fast approaching the end of its useful life is nuts.
The thing is, the girl is buying this car because she doesn't have the cash to buy a new or better car and obviously cash less disposable income for faults than someone spending 10 times the amount. Not sure if a slow wiper should have been picked up on the mot, hopefully nothing more serious was also missed.

I don't know how dealers can sell stuff like this at all. I can only imagine they must have paid a few hundred for the car otherwise the slightest thing would wipe out any profit. I guess the risk is that low end sales will be made by traders pretending to be private individuals.
