Are there any NAS experts out there?

Not sure if anyone here can help?
I have obtained a QNAP TS-431 system containing 4 x 4TB drives.
This was originally the storage centre for my office, which has closed down and just retains a few of us who will be home working.
I've managed to install it on my home/office system and can access it fine.
What I'd like to do is to run this as 2 separate systems, each running 2x 2TB using RAID1.
I need to access one system for work, which would have the same ip address as it is now, and the other for personal use, with its own ip address.
Can this be done, or do I need it running as one system and sort out sharing rights to block others from accessing my personal files?
The next step will be setting it up so that I can use VPN to access the drives when away from home, but I'll get it configured and populated before complicating things any more

You can gave two separate disk groups and if you have two NICs then two separate I addresses, but at a basic level it will still be the same machine,
If the machine is still supported then there is free VM style hosting you can get through the app store (accessed through the NAS) and you can run a separate instance through there. Not sure about external connectivity to/from it though.
QNAP do offer a commercial service which can act as a secure VPN for you, there was a big security scare on it about 6-12 months ago though it turned out it was a legacy issue though new patches were still issued, so one would hope it is now secure as QNAP will know the anti-brigade will be trying to break it. No clue what this side is like as I've not had a need or desire.
Can't give much more info at the moment as I'm away for a few days and so can not look at my own dashboard.

Trying to have shares from one volume associated with one NIC and shares from the other associated with the other NIC will at best be a colossal PITA. Get your head around the permissions system.I would not want to be hosting a shared work drive from my home.
It sounds like you are trying to do the right thing but are there other solutions? Google drive, onedrive/o365, etc that could give you a more robust solution?
Playing devils advocate, what happens if your home hosted solution fails? Are you responsible for backups? Or it gets stolen? Or compromised?

The “work” part of the drive is synchronised to our head office in France. This is just a second source as the link with France is sometimes slow and also allows us to carry on working in UK if there are any problems in France. I also travel a lot and, for some (security?) reason cannot always achieve a VPN link from some hotels to the head office but can always get on to UK based system. It sounds like you are trying to do the right thing but are there other solutions? I will also be running backups of my personal stuff locally.
